My sister hogs my parents' attention

My sister and I swim competitively. Each night, my dad tells her how well she swam at practice, and how she can improve her strokes. Then, at dinner, he boasts about her. My parents hardly say a word to me. It’s like I don’t exist.

Dear Non-existent,

It’s time to remind Mom and Dad that you do indeed exist. Write them a short note saying something like, “I love you, but it feels as though you pay more attention to my sister than to me.” Put it on their pillow, and I bet you’ll get some results. If you’d rather start a verbal discussion, try, “I’m feeling invisible,” rather than, “You’re always ignoring me!” One more thing: Is swimming your favorite sport? If so, great. If not, let your sister get wet while you focus on something else.
