Get tank top-ready arms
“Arm muscles can tone up fast,” says New York City-based personal trainer Shannon Sodano. Grab some small weights and do three sets of 15 reps of your fave arm exercises (like bicep curls and tricep extensions). Even old-fashioned push-ups will work.

Run stairs for your booty
Talk about a challenge. Running stairs is sooo good for you and tough beyond words. Plus, it automatically works your glutes more than runnin’ on flat land. Head to a local stadium and aim to jog up and down the stairs for at least 20 minutes.

Act like you have a trainer
Trainers get paid to kick your butt into shape. That’s why we asked trainer Jenny Skoog to share her ideal workouts for a week. The truth? It’s super tough, but it also gets you lean. If you’re just starting to work out, cut the Sunday, Monday and Friday sessions in half.

Sunday: 60 minutes of running
Monday: Strength training for 45 minutes, yoga for 45 minutes
Tuesday: High-intensity interval training. Think: 10 all-out 1-minute sprints with 1 minute recovery
Wednesday: 45 minutes low-intensity cardio, like the elliptical or hiking
Thursday: 30 minutes moderate to heavy strength training
Friday: 60 minutes high-intensity interval training, like kickboxing with jump rope intervals
Saturday: 30 minutes of yoga

Eat right trick: Curb salt 
“If you cut the salt from your diet, you will look much better in just a few days,” says trainer and health expert Scott Malin, who works with celebs in L.A. Salt makes your bod retain water, which can make you look bloated.

Hey girl, do you really need to lose stomach weight? That's the question. Remember, your bod is growing. Just focus on exercising and eating healthy for now. Those good habits will keep you in great shape whether or not you see their impact on the scale.

Hey girl. Has you height changed? Check with your doc to see if your weight and height are good for you. Hula hooping is a great way to stay active, but try switching it up every so often.

If you want to lose weight, I found that making meals for the family can help to burn calories AND to make sure that you are eating right. My parents commonly cook meals that are made using processed, high in preservatives and salts and such. When I cook, I make sure to cook things that are fresh, light,filling and healthy. This has benefitted averyone in my family, not just myself. So if you are looking to lose weight, go grocery shopping with your parents and get cookin! Smile

Im twelve years old, 5, 3" and about 125 1lbs. My thighs are muscly aswell as my arms. The only things that is a problem area for me is my tummy. Im not that incredibly large, but then again i dont have a flat belly. When I see everyone asking for advice begging for " bikini boddies" and a " flat stomache" it breaks my heart. Especially when everyone is so young. Theres no need to worry your still changing so let your body grow! My advice is to take a Zumba class at your local YMCA. Thats what im currently doing, its super fun you get to shake your thighs and move those hips. The best part is an hourly class will burn about 700-800 calories.
Remember: Beauty is a verb not an adjective, you can not look beautiful you have to BE beautiful. Having the ability to act beautiful and erase the thought of looking beautiful is the biggest accomplishment in life

So many of you gorgeous girls are concerned with the way your friends look but I bet if you take a serious look at yourself, you'll find that your friends are just as envious of your extra junk in the trunk or bigger breasts! That said, many of you want to 'spot tone', or lose weight in a particular spot of your body, like tummy fat. The best way to get rid of specific fat is to burn overall fat. Crunches will give you more ab strength, but won't get rid of the fat on top of your muscles!
I suggest cutting out sugar and processed foods (m&m's, ice cream, wheat thins, mcdonald's, etc.) and stick to natural and whole foods (fruits, whole grains, veggies and lean protein like fish, chicken, etc.). Then, add in some cardio to your program, like swimming, biking or running. Do some pushups, pullups, stairs and squat jumps.
In order to see changes to your body, you've gotta take your body out of it's comfort zone!

Hey babe. You should drink water to stay hydrated, but drinking too much can strip away nutrients! You will see a drop in weight if you start drinking more water, but only for a short time because its water weight.

I won't tell you how much i weigh, i'm too embarressed but i need to lose at least 80 pounds to be a healthy weight (im 12 and im 5feet 4in). Anyways itold my mom to stop bying so much food and to start buying healthy food and she still dosent. i cant join a gym or run or swim and the workouts i find online and on GL either dont do anything for me or are too hard. i have active wii games but people are always around and im too embarresed. i have no support at all and i get made fun of all the time. btw i have severe astma and i play 2 sports but there only for a couple months at a time. please help me Frown




Has your doctor recommended your weight loss? If not, you should talk to him or her before you make any changes to your diet/lifestyle. As far as working out, your best bet is to workout on your own in your own space. Try talking to your parents about how you feel regarding their support and how it would mean a great deal if you had it

UHH! Ok so ive been working out ever since the summer started, im a pre-teen 5'8 1/2 and i weigh about ....lbs. I know im not large but i feel so self confident about wearing my bathing suit without shorts cause i feel i look to big!! I dont know if this is normal weight but i run 2 miles a day and i dont seem to be losing any weight. I even stayed off snack foods like chips! Is there anything to help me drop a few pounds??

So right now im on summer break and i just went to the doctors and i asked whats a good weight for my heights and she said lose about 10-15 lbs. I have a month and a half to lose that. With that being said my doctors put me on a strict restriction that i cant run or jumping (anything with high impact) bc it hurts my knees. I want to tone and lose fat on my tummy, legs(inner thighs), and arms. Please include exercises, when to do them...etc. Thank you soo much! Laughing




Hey babe! Check with your doctor on this one, but ellipticals are supposed to be better on your knees than treadmills, so you should definitely do that. You can also do ab workouts which will be great, use an exercise ball too, they make it way more fun. You can use free weight, like dumbbells, to work out your upper body. Just find a regiment that you like and stick to it! xoxo

im starting high school next year and i want to get fit. Because currently im a little overweight,and i want to be able to find clothes easier.So i started to take bootcamp classes twice a week.i want to lose at least 30 pounds by september. Is that a good goal? What else can i do to lose weight? Also i have a really big boobs, i like them but i dont want to get rid of them when i lose the weight.what can i do?




Hey girl,

  When trying to lose weight, it's healthiest for your body if you only lose 1-2 pounds per week, meaning around 8 pounds per month. Since September is about 2 months away, that means that 16 pounds is a much more realistic goal.  That doesn't mean that come September, you have to stop working out and eating healthy, you can keep doing that longer to lose more weight.  And unfortunately, you can't choose where the excess fat that you're losing comes from, so this may mean that your boobs will get smaller.  x0x0

Sit-ups are a great way to tighten up your tummy fast, and so it doing the plank (when you put your forearms on the ground and lift your body up, with only your arms and toes on the floor still). Also, try to stay away from junk food or anything too salty for these next couple of days and drink lots of water to prevent bloating. good luck! x0x0

Hey girl. I'm afraid there is no quick way to a six pack. Make sure that you are working all of your abs (lower, upper, sides). One of my fav workouts is sit-ups with legs in diff positions. Don't starve yourself, hon.

MODMODMOD! I can't seem to get a bikini body! I heard curvy people just naturally weigh more, but my weight seems weird cuz I'm only 5' 1" and I weigh.... I can't seem to lose the weight or just look good. I don't know what my problem is. I just feel fat around all my friends, I don't look good in anything. I know I'm pretty but why can't I lose the weight? And am I overweight?




Hey girl,

The only person who can tell you if you're actually overweight is your doctor. In fact, your doctor will have professional advice to both of these issues! (Sometimes, it could be an issue with your metabolism causing weight gain or something else that only a doctor could know.) In the meantime, just try to eat balanced meals and only when you're hungry (no extra snacking or over-eating) and getting at least 60 minutes of exercise each day. That way, you'll know you're living a HEALTHY life, no matter what your weight. That's the most important thing! Smile

To stay in shape during the summer I go to my 2 hour long swim practices everyday and do a quick ab workout in the morning and again in the afternoon to keep my abs and stomach defined!!

Hey there chica! You need to remind yourself that crash dieting doesn't work in the long run. As soon as you stop, you'll gain the weight back mega fast. It's better to make an overall life change. That way, you can maintain your bikini bod for the long run! Why not try a fun new class to get in shape? Like zumba... or, take a fun new class, like salsa dancing. That'll work every part of your body, and it won't feel like a workout, so you'll stick with it Smile

Hey chica! It's not sad at all.... companies like that spend millions of dollars trying to get us to believe stuff, so it's bound to work sometimes Smile

Working out and eating healthy will get you flat abs, just not in a week. Typically, you should start seeing results in about a month. I know, that sounds like forev, but trust me, it'll be worth it!

Hey chica, It's most important is to take care of your body - check in with your doc before you try to lose weight.  He/she can tell you what's best for you to go about it safely.  But also remember it's actually really normal to have more fat in those places as you grow up - it's healthy!  So take care of your body and love it for what it is.  You deserve to feel beautiful, because you are. Hey girl, honestly, you can do workouts targeted toward your legs, but the best way to tone your legs is to jog, walk or do cardio exercises -- these more or less help tone your entire body too. What would be some moderate strength training excercises and high-intensity interval training? I looked it up on google but couldnt find it. I asked my mom and she didnt help much. please help. I dont have many exercise equipment. I have resistence bands, a exercise ball, a mini exercise ball, a medicine ball, and two 5 pound dumbbells.




Hey girl, moderate strength training can be weights -- it's just about the number of repetitions and intensity of the exercises during it. As for high intensity interval training, it's essentially short training bursts of intense activity: so for example, it'd be you switching between hard sprinting for 15-20 seconds and then jogging for 10 seconds at a slower pace.

I know you said that everyone is different as to how long it takes for weight to come off, but do you think it's possible to be bikini ready in 1 and a half months if you exercise and eat healthier? I'm not fat but not super skinny. Thanks so much!




Hey girl, first of all, chances are you are TOTALLY fine just the way you are! You should not be trying to diet or lose a lot of weight. The goal now should be to just take care of yourself and give your bod the nutrients it needs to grow. I would totally suggest building a routine that includes exercise and healthy food but not just for swimsuit season -- making healthy choices just overall improves your life and keeps you feeling better.

Doing stairs and steps is the best thing for our booty. I do them just to make sure its tome back there. My bf thinks I am crazy for exercising the way I do, and when I do it with my mom I even like it more.

I have a big muffin top. I also have terrible curves because of my muffin top because I don't have big hips. How can I lose a muffin top? I have a lot of trouble working out or sticking to a workout plan. What should I do?




Hey girl,

Try doing simple cardio exercises like walking or jogging, and then ab exercises to tone your tummy. Have a friend do an exercise plan with you so that you're more likely to stick to it. Good luck! x0x0

So I just finished Jr. High and gym has been one of my required classes for the past three years. I am not required to do gym or weight training for the next two years. I've already signed up for all of my classes and i didnt include any that would really keep me in shape. Right now I am in really good shape (swimming a couple times a week has made a big difference in my health) but I am worried that without any workout classes I might turn into an out of shape blob...I am already pretty muscular and toned, but what are some workouts that will keep me in shape?

Can you still use the pool sometimes even if you're not taking swimming as a class? Try that, or just try running or joining a sports team. Those are great ways to stay in shape. x0x0

You should try exercises that tone up your arms, not necessarily give you bigger muscles.  It's just important to stay healthy, so it's great that you're exercising, but try using weights to tone up your arms. x0x0

If you have a healthy body weight, you shouldn't worry about losing weight just as long as you're staying healthy. If you just want to get fit, try playing some outside sports like tennis or ride your bike with your friends. You shouldn't be self-conscious, just love your bod.

Hey girl,

 You might be getting cramps from exercising too soon after eating or drinking, so the next time you exercise eat or drink at least 45 minutes before you start.  If that doesn't help, you should go see a doctor to make sure everything's OK.  And you can start exercising at a moderate or light pace, so you don't overwork yourself the first few times. Easy cardio workouts are jogging, walking, and jump-roping. You can workout either very hard or just a little with all of these. And yes, hula hooping is good exercise because it gets your body moving. x0x0

Hey girl! Just so you know a BMI isn't always very accurate because it doesn't account for muscle weight. That being said, you shouldn't care about what other people think. I know it's a cliche, but it's true. And I'm sure if you stopped eating around people they would be thinking that you have an eating disorder, which is so bad. So just keep making healthy decisions and stop caring what people think about you. You need to eat and you should eat healthy things that you enjoy. xoxo

Hey girlie! The best time to weigh yourself is right when you wake up and before you have taken a shower or had anything to eat, another trick is to go to the bathroom before stepping on the scale! xoxo

Hey girly,
This goal is a bit unrealistic because healthy weight loss usually is about 1 or 2 pounds a week. You could definitely lose 10 pounds if you work hard, but I'm not sure you could do 20 without it being unhealthy.

Hey girly,
The tough thing about working without weights is that it can cause some weight distribution issues and not give you a proper workout. You can get some really cheap weights almost anywhere, so I would totally suggest getting some.
