Combat humidity for every hair type

  • Beauty Spy: Fresh faced and simple Ann Marie E.
Yep, it’s that time of year—you step out the front door and your perfectly-crafted style falls flat or flips out, depending on your hair type. We’re providing you with an arsenal of products you’ll need to keep your hair humidity-proof this sunny season. Stay sleek, sister!

For fine hair: Pick a shampoo that won’t leave your hair feeling heavy. Anything and everything will weigh down your locks, so use a lightweight shampoo and conditioner for fine hair (seek out one that’s good for daily use—they’re generally lighter). For that va-va-voom effect, try a spritzing on a volumizing spray after showering. Flip your head upside down and blow dry for even more volume.

Depth Beauty Refresh Daily Shampoo, $10, drugstore.com

For frizzy hair: Find an anti-frizz serum that works for you. On humid days, apply a dab about the size of a nickel directly after a shower. Comb through and style as normal. Once your hair is dry you can add some smoothing cream to the pieces that frame your face and other spots that frizz easily.

John Frieda Frizz-Ease Hair Serum Thermal Protection Formula, $9, drugstore.com

For curly hair: Comb in an anti-frizz serum immediately after showering and then apply a waxed-based serum to damp hair. This will protect roots from all the moisture in the air but won’t make curls brittle.

I have curly hair. That one suggestion might work. Maybe I can reduce the amount of time the pretty girls spend picking on me.

MOD, MOD, MOD!
Sorry about my last comment, I didn't know that I needed MOD's in that comment. Are there frizz fighters for curly, frizzy hair that don't cost a lot of dough? Thanks!

Hey girlie,

Unfortunately, frizzy hair fixed tend to cost a little more than other hair products... but they're an investment, since you won't have to buy them very often. A little goes a long way! Check out these articles for some ideas Smile

PLEASE HELP AND THANK YOU SO MUCH

Hey babe,

You could try Sun In, which is a formula you can buy at your local drugstore. Follow the directions on the package, and it will channel the suns rays to naturally lighten your hair. Women have been using it for decades!

Mod: I always take showers at night, and I always put my hair up in a loose bun. When I wake up in the morning, I take the bun out, my hair is a sea of extremely wavy awsomeness, and it's still a little damp (my hair is extremely thick). I've always wanted my hair to stay like that all day, but when it dries, it just gets really frizzy and goes crazy. I've tried hair spray, but that never really helps. Do you have any suggestions?

Hey girlie, try a gel or mousse in your hair before you put it up in a bun. When you wake up and take your hair out it will stay wavy much longer!

My hair is SUPER wavy when it air dries, and I think that it looks really pretty. I know that it is summer right now,but I shower before school in the morning and blow drying my hair makes it really flat, but not straight, so I straighten it. Is there any way to blow dry my hair and keep it wavy? Thanks a ton!

Hey girlie, I can't promise it will help, but try blow drying your hair with cool air. The temperature might make a difference in the way your hair reacts.

I've always had short hair, and I've always worn it the same way- natural and with a part to the right side. I want to experiment with other styles, but the best ones are for long hair, and I can't color it very well because I cant see the ends of the hair at the back. Any quick, easy, and cute ideas? I'm totally lost.

Mods!
What about greasy hair? I want to straighten my hair but everytime I do it comes out look greasy and gross! Any tips?

Hey girl,

Try washing your hair, blow drying it, and then straightening it right after. The problem might be that your hair just needs to be washed before you straighten it. Also, patting some baby powder on your scalp and roots so that it's completely rubbed in gets rid of grease too, so you can also try that. Good luck! x0x0

Hey babe. Why not talk with a stylist about this? Also, try prepping your hair before curling with mouse or curl enhancing spray.

MOD MOD MOD MOD MOD MOD!!! Okay, so sorry this is not related to the topic. So this morning we found out my great aunt died. I didn't see her that much, mabey once or twice a year, but you know she was importantant to a part of my family. Well, i am still in school Mon-Thurs this week (funky schdule) and i have plans thursday. Then friday, my family is supposed to leave for the beach. See the thing is, we don't know when the funeral is supposed to be, but my parents arn't sure if i should go. I don't wanna be selfish or anything, but iv'e never been to a funeral and since i didn't really know her.....but i just don't wanna look back one day and feel bad about not going. Should i go when the time comes up? Sorry this is long, but i need help Frown Thanks in advance

Hey girly! First of all, I'm so sorry about your aunt Frown

If I were you, I'd go to the funeral. Then, you won't have to feel bad about anything. Funerals really aren't as scary as they seem, and it'll be over quick. Although you might not have known her very well, those closer to her are probably taking it hard right now, and your support and being there will mean the world to them.

Any ideas on how to tame the frizz without spending a fortunee? thanks so muchhh! ttyl lili 545

Hey girly girl! I love Redken's Soft Treatment. I think I have that name right! If not, it's something very similar. It's a wonderful conditioner that leaves your hair feeling super soft and smooth.

Also, lots of people that I know swear by Moroccan Oil (or, Argon Oil). You just just a little pea-sized amount, and it makes your hair super soft and smooth as well. Moroccan Oil is a bit pricey, and can be found at many salons. Cheaper forms of argon oil can be found at Sally Beauty Supply for around $6 Smile

Mod!!!!! Mod!!!! Unless I blow out my hair (I'm really bad at it) or put it up, my hair doesn't look that good... Hairdressers tell me my hair drys badly. What should I do? Thank you!!

Hey girly! You could always dry it with a round brush or paddle brush, then put it in hot rollers. Or, you could put it in a braid when its wet, and then take the braid out when its dry, for nice waves Smile

Hey girly girl! It sounds like your cousin needs to talk with your grandma about this. There has to be a reason your grandma won't let her out. Maybe, your cuz could find a way to prove to your grandma that she's responsible enough to go out.

Hey chica!  Braids are a fun and easy way to switch up your 'do.  I like doing two thin ones at the front, and then pinning them back (kind of like a half-up-do).  You could also do one braid with a side part - so pretty!  You could also check these summer updos:  http://www.girlslife.com/post/2011/05/19/4-perfect-summer-updos.aspx.  xoxo
