5 tips to nix that stubborn razor burn

Check these out, too...

  • I have hair on my upper lip, like a mustache!
  • Just shaved my legs, but I'm still seeing roots!
  • I can't stop tearing my hair out--help!
  • See ya, bedhead: 5 bad-hair-day busters
  • 4 steps to longer lashes
Lately, since summer started, I've been getting really bad razor burn. Plus, I'm pale, so all the little red dots show on my skin. How can I prevent this from happening?

While a li’l bit of razor burn in the winter isn’t a big deal thanks to tights and long pants, during the season of bathing suits and short-shorts, it’s a major issue. Don’t worry though, girlie! There is a bunch of ways to ensure you get a smooth, bump-free shave all summer long.

Freshen up
Changing up your razor blade every week (or two or three), depending on how frequently you shave, will ensure that your shave is as smooth as possible. A fresh blade is at its sharpest, and while it can get tricky to navigate ankles and knees, it’ll mean that you won’t be pressing harder than necessary and risking nicks. Ouch!

Wait it out
Save shaving for the end of your shower. The warm water will soften your hair follicles, making it easier for your razor blade to get a close shave that’ll last longer. It’ll also mean that the air around you will have become warmer, too, letting you say sayonara to goosebumps…and the pain that comes with nicking one.

Clean it up
Before you even think about picking up your razor, use a soaped-up loofa or washcloth to exfoliate your gams. When you’re ready to shave, be sure to coat your skin with shave gel. I like using an extra-moisturizing product, or one that’s designed for sensitive skin.

Take it easy!
Go. Slow. Shaving isn’t a race, sweetie, and your legs (and pits) will thank you if you take your time wielding that razor. Experiment with different angles that pull your skin taut and tight.

Pamper sensitive skin
When you’re toweling off, resist the urge to rub away the water and pat your legs dry, instead. Then, rub in some rich lotion. Girls prone to irritation, bumps or razor burn should pick a fragrance-free brand.

Good luck, girlie!

I know this is extremely unrelated to shaving, but nonetheless... This girl who I used to be friends with wants to reconnect. This may seem fine, but a few months ago, she ditched us for her old group. She joined our (quote un-quote) clique because her old group (as stated before) ditched her. Now that she is seeking friendship with me and my amigas, it leads me to believe that her group may be ditching her again. I don't want to go through the anger of losing a friend, but I know how it feels to be friendless for a while b/c you were ditched. I have NO IDEA what to do, so could you please lead me in a good direction? Oh, and as soon as possible (not to seem so imperative...) because she plans to hang out soon...
Thanks in advanced

Hey babe! You're right, it probably does suck to be friendless, it's awesome that you're so understanding and I think you should give her another shot. Just don't share all your secrets with her until you know she's serious. If she sticks around for a while then you can start to trust her, but she may just be a fair-weather friend. Good luck babe xoxo

My mom is the most private person ever. You can not talk to her about puberty or she will get embarrassed and awkward. My older sister's were never able to talk to her and now i cant get through to her. Its a touchy subject for her. And so in place of that, my dad tries to talk with me about it. He asks f there are any cute boys at school and if iv had my first kiss, he has asked about my period, and today tried talking to me about bras. Its awkward. How do i get him to stop? iv asked him many times and have asked my mom but she never talks to him.

Hey girl, understand where your dad is coming from: he's just trying to help you through this. If you don't feel comfy talking to him about it though, sit him down and explain it's not him, it's just that you feel weird talking about this girl stuff with a guy. He'll understand. Tell him too about how you feel about your mom not being involved and if there's any woman he'd suggest you talk to — maybe an aunt or trusted neighbor, etc. Just be honest and gentle with him. He really does care and your mom does too in her own way.

xoxo

my hairs down there...stick forward, and they feel weird. like it doesnt feel lke normal hair, all smooth. it feels rough and uncomfortable. but i dont want to shave down there. why is it all rough down there?

Hey girl,

Most of the time, the hair down there is a lot rougher and more coarse than the other hairs on our body. You can try waxing, if you don't want to shave, but if not, you kinda just have to deal with it because we can't really help how our hairs grow in. x0x0
