Itchy down there after my period

Check these out, too...

  • Turning 16--but I don't want to grow up
  • I'm only 13--why did my breasts stop growing?
  • Why do my fingers turn red when I'm cold?
  • Do guys only care about chest size?
  • Why is my tummy so rumbly?
I've just started my period and now, down there, has been constantly irritated! I don't want to itch but it gets so bad. Any solutions?

Resist the urge to itch! If you scratch yourself down there it could really hurt.

The number-one culprit behind itchiness during and right after your period is pads. Having a moist wad of papery fabric rubbing you the wrong way down there can cause major irritation. I know it sounds gross, but it’s sort of like diaper rash. Try switching to unscented and softer pad or a tampon.

Another possibility? Shaving. If you shave down there, the itchiness could be the result of the hair growing back in.

If neither one of these situations is the case, it is possible that you are at the beginning of a yeast infection or another type of irritation. If the pad ideas don't work or you are uncertain about anything, you should see a doc!

How do I know when I put a pad on properly? Because sometimes I leak because the pad wasn't covering the front part of my underwear or the back. Sorry it's kinda hard to explain. How can I avoid this?

Hey girl,

Try using a pad with wings and put the wing part in the center of your underwear. If you're still having leaks, try switching to a long or super long version. Smile

MOD MOD MOD! Today i wore a tampon then during the day i went in the bathroom and noticed that even with it in there was alot of blood that hadnt been there when i put it in whats going on?

Hey babe!

You might just have a heavier flow than you thought. Try putting in a tampon with a higher absorbency now! xoxox

MOD MOD MOD I dont think im putting at tampon in right i get it in there but then whenever i sit.down i feel it and it hurts. Am i doing something wrong?

Hey girl!

The first few times you wear a tampon can feel kind of strange.  Here's an article about how to make the pain of a tampon go away: http://www.girlslife.com/post/2011/04/19/Tampon-trouble-It-still-hurts.aspx xoxox

Hey girly girl! This is totally normal and nothing to be embarassed about! Some girls find that shaving down there makes it less itchy. Others use creams like Vagisil, which treats yeast infections.

Hey girl,

If you have any kind of itch or rash anywhere on your body (including down there), you should definitely go see a doctor to make sure everything's OK. It could spread to other parts of your body, depending on what the rash is, so it's better to be safe than sorry. x0x0

MOD MOD MOD!!!
I'm having pain "down there" especially when I walk... Its not my vagina or where urine comes out. It doesn't even hurt to go to the bathroom at all. Its like in front of all that. I've noticed that there is some redness on the flat part in front down there, almost in like a trail going up under the hair. Its a little tender too if you push on it. I have no clue what it is but I just got my period today this month. Does this sound like anything? I'm getting kinda worried! Please help!!!

Hey girlie,

It could be a rash that has been irritated by wearing a wet bathing suit, a new soap you've started using, or some other reason. I know it sounds awkward, but you should really tell mom/an older sister about it just to make sure it isn't anything that would require an antibiotic to get rid of!

MOD MOD MOD This is gonna sound stupid but...im afraid to talk to my doctor, im afraid he will think im wierd because of the questions i have about like body and intercorse questions, and im afraid he will tell my mom all about me. i guess i could feel a little better about having a girl doctor but when i told my mom that, she said that i shouldnt feel uncomfortable at all because my doctor has been my doc since the day i was born. im also afraid of "that" checkup where he checks"down there". i know this is stupid but...help!!!!!!!!!!! thanks Smile

Oh, girl. You do not sound stupid. Please don't think that. I can see how asking your doc questions may be hard, but he is one of the best sources of reliable health info. Try asking him if he could not mention questions you ask to your mom and see how he responds. Explain to your mom that you don't feel comforable asking your doc about your changing body. Just because you've grown up going to the same male doctor doesn't mean that you will always be comfortable with him. He will understand you switching. You could even send him a  thank you for being such a good doc. About him checking down there, remember than he sees things all the time. He is a medical professional and it is his job. Personally, I see a male 'lady' doctor and it took me a little while to get used to it. Maybe you could ask your mom to come in with you for the check up?

MOD MOD MOD!!!
i wear tampons, and when im on my period i don't really itch like i use to (when i wore pads they rubbed on me i hated it!) but when my period ends..it starts to itch where my tampon was! it only itches for 2 or 3 days. then it stops. is it bad that it itches where my tampon goes?? i think its cause i have really sensative skin.

Hey! to get the best answers you should talk to your doctor about this. good luck!

ok, i know this is gonna sound weird, but when i'm on my period, i'll put a tampon in for like 3 hours. When i go to put another one in, it hurts. is there something wrong with me?

Hey girl,

Maybe the tampon you're using is too heavy for your flow (like you're using a super when you really just need a lite one). If that doesn't help, you should really go see your doctor just to make sure everything's ok. x0x0

okay so i want kind of a new wordrobe for school, the problem is i can fit into ANYWHERE! not wet seal, not forever21, none of those kind of places and those are the kind of places that hav my style of clothes...i can fit into places like hollister and stuff but their stuff is SOOOO expensive, and i hav to pay for my clothes....my mom has tried convincing me to keep going to justice :/ ..i just rlly dnt like those stores, i like vintage looking clothes with lots of detail, what are some places that would fit petiet ppl and hav cute clothes...srry this was so long

Hey girlie,

I know it's hard to remember this, but it doesn't matter where you get your clothes or what size you are in them - it's how you wear them, combine them, and use them to express yourself! Try going to Justice and trying on pieces, even if you wouldn't normally think they're your "style." They look a lot different on your body! Keep an open mind and plan what you can mix them with. Jeans from Justice paired with a size-small crop top from Forever 21 (designed to fit shorter on larger sizes but, on you, will be the perfect length!) will look super cute. You can also try department stores like Macys or JCPenney, which have XS sizes and juniors departments with a wide range of cuts. Try to be creative and don't underestimate the value in actually going to the store and trying stuff on. Online shopping can be daunting, but going in person makes it so much easier to imagine outfits together!

MOD MOD MOD MOD? I have a huge problem - I'm bi. I know that doesn't sound that bad or anything, but I really, really don't want to be! I have a girlfriend, we've kissed and I loved it, but I just feel terrible because I am in a relationship with another girl. I don't want to tell anyone else. Only 2 of my best friends (who are fine with it) and my girlfriend. But I DON'T want to be bi!! Help D: -Confused..

Hey chica! There's absolutely nothing wrong with being bi. Or, experimenting with your sexuality when you're young. It's possible that you may grow out of this stage, or you  may truly be bi-sexual. And either one is OK. If you don't feel comfortable telling certain people, then you don't have to. It's your decision, and your life. And, you should what makes you happy with people who make you happy.
