I can't wait to go back to school

Check these out, too...

  • 7 spring dates on the cheap
  • We wanna know...your most embarrassing school moment
  • Get your draw on with the prettiest coloring book of the season
  • Should you tell him how ya feel before school ends?
  • How not to pull an all-nighter (and stay sane if you have to)
I can’t wait AT ALL to go back to school. I miss school so much and I need advice to get through the rest of the summer. Please help me!

I’m sorry to hear you’re unhappy. It can be tough to leave behind the familiarity of your friends, structure of your sched and even the educational challenges school provides. But instead of spending your summer sobbing over school, try to make the rest of your summer the best it can be! Before you know it, it’ll be time to hit the halls and you’ll have tons of terrific tales to tell.

Stay positive

Don’t just fall into a funk and pout until the weather cools down! Instead of wishing for autumn leaves and number-two pencils, make your summer a time to remember. If you think your summer’s gonna stink, it probably will, so smile big and get ready for the time of your life. Do all the stuff ya never have any time for during the school year: Get to know your neighbors, write your Grandma a letter (she’ll be thrilled) or volunteer for a good cause. Use all your extra time productively, and you’ll banish the boredom blues for good.

Summer school

Still pining for homeroom and cafeteria lunches? Think: What is it you love so much about school? If you can figure out what you’re really missing, you can do your best to work ‘em into your summer. Bummed about missing your friends? Make an effort to get your pals together. Try hosting a sleepover or grabbing your besties for a picnic in the park (for more ideas, check this out). If it’s some brain-training you’re missing, challenge yourself by reading some classics. It’s a chill way to learn a lot.  If you just miss the routine, make your own sched, replacing biology with pool time and English with jogging in the park, of course.

Talk it out

If you still can’t embrace the sunshine and sand of summertime, try explaining that to a close friend or family member. They know you best, so they’ll probably have some great ideas. Be open to their suggestion and try to accept their help. You never know, you might have a great time in a way you’d never expect.

Keep smiling, chica!

Hey babe,

Don't be nervous! Sure summer is AMAZING because you get to do what you want all the time, see your friends tons, and get lots of sleep without the stress of homework. But school - especially without your besties in your classes - can be such a fun new experience! Since you don't have your friends to fall back on this year, make it a goal to meet new people and make new friends in your classes. Don't be shy - speak up and chat with your classmates! (When the teacher isn't trying to speak, of course.) Get to know them, chat about homework/the upcoming test/how their weekends were, and even try scheduling homework and study time with them to get closer. You'll be able to see your friends at lunch, on weekends, and after school - but in the meantime, you'll be able to meet NEW friends! As for mean teachers, just do your work and try to mind your own business. Don't give them a reason to be mean to you - and they won't be! Work hard, turn in assignments on time, and be respectful if you raise your hand or ask a question. And having gym first thing is kinda inconvenient, but be prepared with a hair brush, deodorant, body spritz, and lipgloss in your gym locker...and you'll be fine!

To beat the nerves, just remember that all the "bad" things at school are just opportunities in disguise - they're really not bad things at all!

i miss school sooo muchFrown it's like i spent all year building new relationships with new people. All the inside jokes, really getting to know new people, and im going to have to do it all over again. I dont want it to be awkward when i go back with new-ish friends... i just want it to be like we just pick up where we left off.

MOD I'm so scared to go to high school. I was in a gifted program in elementary school (we don't have middle school in my area. elementary goes up to 8th grade) so all the kids in my class (my friends) were a little different than most kids and, for lack of a better word, we were all pretty nerdy. For example, we all loved Rubik's cubes, Lord of the Rings, and got A+'s in math. But in high school I'll be in a regular program and I'm worried that all the kids will think I'm a nerd. What should I do?

Hey girly,
Just own it. If you act like a nerd and you are okay with it, then you will draw the right kinds of people to be your friends. It will make you happier in the long run. If you want to be able to connect with other people who aren't nerds, there is nothing wrong with getting to know some music and movies that kids outside of your group might like. Good Luck!

MOD MOD MOD
My first day of seventh grade was Wednesday. I didn't want to school today and I was freaking out. I don't like all the people in such a small place, and all the noise. My mom drove me to school. My old math teacher is the assistant principle for sixth grade and she came outside to talk to me. She told me that we could put a crate in my homeroom class to put all my stuff in so I wouldn't have to use my locker and be in the crazy hectic hallway. And I leave class after the hallways have cleared out a bit. But I still get really anxious. How can I fix this?

Hey girlie, you might want to see a doctor. They can help you out with your anxiety.

MOD there’s a workshop at the ban where I take horseback riding lessons at that I'd love to go to, the only problem is that part of it is on the third day of school. Altogether it would cost me nearly $600 but the lady running it is sponsoring youth and it would only be $100 (I wouldn't have to pay for meals either plus I told my parents I'd pay for it) How can I convince my parents that this is an awesome opportunity that I don't want to miss even if it means missing a day of school? Thanks!

Hey girl. I would tell your parents about how little actually happens on the first few days of school and promise that you will ask your teachers for the work in advance.
