While we’d love to redecorate our bedrooms every summer, there’s one thing that tends to get in the way: budget. That’s why we’re big on takin’ what we’ve got and transforming it into something fantastically fresh. Think these projects might be out of your league? Think again! If we can do it, you totally can, too.

New knobs. Who knew?

The easiest way to give your dresser a li’l oomph is to replace the knobs. Would you believe there are stores that specialize in selling the coolest drawer pulls you’ve ever seen? Look one up, or go hunting through antique stores, home improvement stores or a unique boutique like Anthropologie. A little finagling with a screw driver will have you grinning at your handiwork in minutes.

Sand it down

For a bigger project, try hauling your furniture to the garage or driveway. Sand down the current finish until your work surface is nice and smooth. Then head to a hardware store to pick out a new wood stain or paint color. Follow the directions to get the look you want, and ask for help form the knowledgeable pros at these stores if you want some insider insight. Let it dry, then move it back in!

Get fancy

If you really want a room that screams your name, it might be time to pull out the big guns. A mosaic backboard or mirrored drawers can make your room instantly new and 100-percent Y-O-U. For projects like these, you’ll want to go through some interior decorating magazines or websites to score some stellar ideas. Then, take your notions to a home improvement store and let the experts help ya come up with a game plan.

If you could redo your room however you wanted, what would it look like?

I just redid my room, and I designed everything. It's sage green with a silver loft bed with a desk under it. I have a custom made bed spread and pillows out of fabric I chose. I got black cubes and put colorful bins in these and the open ones have canvases my sister painted. A had an open wall, so I made it my "wall of champions" and put all my horse show ribbons up. Then, I had a little corner open so I put a sitting hammock and another cube for all my books. It's nice to have my own unique bedroom that no one has.

I just redid mine the other day! I moved my twin bed to the wall in front of a window then made it into a day bed with Christmas lights all around it. Then I made my windows pop with old pink curtains (my room colors are pink and brown) and then put them in the middle of two brown curtains. I went to the mall the other day and bought these cute little wall decors that are mirrors and put them all around my room. I'm using a shoe holder to hold not only shoes but lotions, body mists, and perfumes. It looks really nice.

Help me!! I can't clean to save my life!! I love my room, it's nice and big, but it's filled with junk!! I honestly have no idea how it gets there!

Hey girl, I'd grab a vacuum cleaner, your hands and cleaning supplies and make list of all you need done. Then you can devy the work with me and Kellytoo!

My room looks like 6 year old designed it. I want to make it look better....But My room is small how can I redesign it on a budget with taking up alot of space, and with out spending tons of money!!! Help

Hey girl, go for decorations that give your room a modern twist without a crazy price tag: bulletin boards, lanterns, posters, little things like that.

MOD MOD MOD MOD!!!!!!! I want a new bed cause mine is old and uncomfortable. I don't know how to ask my parents cause the new bed that I want is $1800. I can't sleep very well anymore. I got new pillows but that didn't help. I realized it was the bed. My parents are always yelling at me to get up but I'm still exhausted. Also the bed I want is from PBTeen, and I have a small room and its a loft bed so it will help save room. It is a bed on top and a desk on the bottom. What do I do?

Hey girl,

You can try to babysit or make some money on your own, so you can afford the bed, or you could look for cheaper options if your parents say you can't get that one. It could just be the mattress, though, so tell your parents that you wanna go look at mattresses because this one is causing you pain. x0x0

MODMODMOD Hi I regularly clean my room every day but now I'm kinda getting lazy and not cleaning it. I tried rewarding myself but it just doesn't work. Do you have fresh ideas that would make me clean my room? thanks!

Hey girl,

Try listening to music and dancing while you clean. It'll make cleanup a whole lot more fun! x0x0

MOD MOD
Hi. I share a room with my sister and I have always wanted my own room but that is not going to be possible anytime soon. So what way can I kind of seperate the rooms or just make it look better so my friends can visit me? Also, it is in an apartment and we have a lot of boxes and no where to put them. What can I also do with the boxes? Thanks

Hey babe,

Try stashing extra boxes under your bed or on the floor in closets. Or you can turn them into furniture - throw a small table cloth or piece of old fabric (even a funky scarf would look cool) over them to instantly turn them into mini tables! You can stack books on top, arrange little vases or even a small lamp to give the room a cool vibe. As for separating your room, try using a certain color scheme to define your space. Your sis's bedspread blue? Make yours pink and choose a rug or deck your wall with clippings from magazines, paintings, or other accents with that color scheme. You can also find inexpensive screens at department stores or home stores to separate your side from your sister's Smile

MOD MOD!!!
My room was going to be painted but it's not going to be anymore because money's tight. What are some ways I can spice up my room inexpensively? Thanks! Smile

Hey girl,

Take my advice in the comment down there with a lil creative twist to save cash! Sewing your own new bedspread by buying thread and fabric at the store is much cheaper than buying a new one at the department store. Make photos (usually prints are about 25 cents a piece) of you and your friends to put on your walls. Have friends make collages or watercolors for you, then post them up on the walls. Rearrange the furniture to refresh your old routine. Shop yard sales or antique stores for inexpensive lamp shades, mirrors, vases, or other accent pieces. Little things like this will really help!

MOD MOD
I live in an apartment and we cant paint the walls plus i share with my 18yr old sister. What can i do to make the room fill more comfortable and me?

Hey girl,

I live in an apartment too, and trust me...you don't need paint to put your stamp on the room! Rejuvenate your room in different ways - sew a new bedspread with fabrics you love at the craft store, tape photos of you/your friends, pictures from magazines, and paintings on your walls, rearrange the furniture on your side of the room, or invest in a cute little lamp, mirror, or vase to spice up your space. Even these little adjustments will make you feel more at home!

MOD MOD MOD i want to make my queen size bed look like a day bed is that possible? And can i put it infront of a window? thanks

Hey babe. It is possible to make any bed look like a day bed with the right bed frame. Also try lining pillows up against the wall for the same affect. I think you should ask your rents about putting the bed under the window.

MOD!
Ok so I REALLY wanna change my room and make it more ME! But I share a room with my lil sister. My room is yellow with different butterflies and bugs painted on them. I like my wall but its too... Kiddish... I have 20 bucks to spend and I cant move anything of hers. Also I used to have a big mirror connected to my dresser but my mom moved it to my sis's. So everytime I need to use the mirror (for makeup and hair stuff) my things get throw on the ground or my dresser. Any suggestions??? Thanks!

Hey babe! The best way to spice up your room is to paint it. If you're sharing with your lil' sis then paint your side, you can make it an accent wall or something. That will cost about $10 for a gallon of paint. Then you can get your own mirror with the leftover money. There are cute, inexpensive mirrors at Target and stores like that. Get a full length one, you can do your makeup in it and check your outfit in it. Make your dresser into a vanity so that you can keep your makeup and hair things organized. Good luck! xoxo

Oh, if I could style my bedroom however, I would get the wall removed and replaced with floor-to-ceiling windows so I can have a full view of nature (with curtains). I would have a loft bed with a desk underneath. It would be ocean themed.

For my room, I would like paper lanterns strung from the ceiling. I would paint the walls turquoise and I would have a big whiteboard on one wall. I would also have a really cool mural on my ceiling and have my name painted on the front of my door. As for curtains, I would want them to be shimmery gold. I would have a full-length mirror on the inside of my door. I would also want a bookshelf that was made out of blue and green glass tiles.

I took a bunch of old music records and hung them from some fishing wire and made it into a huge mobile. Records are pretty cheap, too; I got all of mine for about 45 cents. I also hung the extra ones on my walls, along with my guitar and music posters.

Mod: (Sorry, but this has absolutely nothing to do with this article. :/) My friend Catherine is extremely self-conscious about her weight. She told me at the end of the school year that over the summer she was going to loose some weight. I called her up the other day to see how she was doing, (not to mention I was lonely), and she was really sad because she wasn't losing any weight! I've always told her that she's perfect and amazing just the way she is, but she won't listen. D: I want her to feel amazing, because she deserves it! (She was my first friend in middle school, and she's hilarious!) Is there anything I can do to make her feel good about herself?

hey! tell her that girls' bodies change a ton during teen years and that the sooner she accepts herself as beautiful the sooner she can be happy and get the most out of life Smile good luck!

I have always wanted to redo my room! I would paint a wall pink (my favorite color) and put all my accomplishments on that wall, then move my bed closer to my window so I could get fresh air and have more room, last I would get a new dresser that screams out M-E! Smile

I wanted to redecorate my room so since I am really into art, I took all of my saved artwork and made a huge colage on one of my walls, then (because my room is underwater themed) I took seashells and put them in all of the little spaces where the wall still shows through. It came out really cool!
