Discharge overload

 
I just started getting discharge, and every time I wipe, I see a ton of it! Is there any way to decrease the amount of discharge I get?

 

Unfortunately, sweetie, there’s nothing you can do to decrease the amount of discharge you see in your undies. Normal-looking discharge is a sign that you’re healthy, and while there is no telling exactly when the rest of your body will mature, it’s a good sign that you’re growing up according to schedule.

 

If it’s making you uncomfortable, you can try wearing pantiliners—thin pads that stick to your undies—to absorb the moisture. Also try wearing 100-percent cotton panties to make sure your private parts can breathe.

In ALL of the articles it says 'you should get your period shortly after starting discharge' or '6 months to a year after' or 'up to 16 months' Well I have been getting it for almost 2 years, so about 20 months I think. That is 4 months over the complete maximum in all the articles! Is there something wrong with me that I don't have my period yet?

There is absolutely nothing wrong! No worries. Periods are super tricky and hard to generalize since they are different for every single girl. However, if there is any unusual smell or irritation, make sure to get it checked out with your doc!

Its usually clear (sometimes white) and its (i know really gross but...) kind of gooey? it kind of has an odor to it, and it makes me self conscious because i think other people can smell it too. First of all, is it discharge? second, should i be

Hey missy, no need to be embarassed we're all girls here lol. The amount of discharge differs from woman to woman. Some women get it once in a while, others have it everyday, so it all depends on your body. There are a couple different things you can do to prevent the smell. Wearing cotton underwear helps, and refraining from using fraganced soaps down there is beneficial too. Also be sure to switch pads/tampons out.  Hope this helps!!! Smile Smile

Try out pantyliners.  They're much thinner  and more comfortable than pads but they serve the same purpose.

That's discharge, babe! And it's definitely a sign that you're in the midst of puberty, but it's tough to tell if you'll get your period "soon" or not. Typically girls get their first period about 6-12 months after discharge starts, but it really all depends on your bod. Try to be patient Smile

This may be related with my discharge but it just seems that I have more discharge after I touch myself down there like after masturbating. I am not positive but I would think it has to be related because it just seems like its more after doing that.
I know are bodies are affected by doing certain things like that where it starts to get more moist when doing that and from simply think about guys or sex, so I am thinking it has to be related. Oh well, just more to think and learn about.

No no no. It is not an infection and nothing to worry about. All of us girls get it. White creamy looking stuff in our panties? it is totally normal and don't let anyone tell you it is not. It is like a mouth that gets spit. and ear that gets wax. It is the natural juices flowing. It is your body telling you that you are alive. BE HAPPY=)

Thanks Mary H!! I found out that we are doing other errands around my appointment, so my mom just said that if I really don't want to tell my dad, I don't have to because we would be going places anyway. I'll let you know how it turns out!

MOD MOD MOD!!! Ok so tomorrow I have an appointment with my doctor because I've had an ingrown hair/pimple thing down there for a few weeks and it still hasn't gone away. My mom and I think it's a good idea to go just to make sure it's not infected or anything. I'm not really worried about what she'll say it is because I've never had sex so I know it's not an STD, but I'm worried about her looking there. I know it's her job and she's done it a billion times before, but since it's my first time having this kind of appointment, I'm worried. So I have a couple questions: 1. I might have my period, so should I use pad or tampon for the appointment? 2. Should I wear something that I normally wouldn't? 3. Should I have my mom come back with me? and 4. I went to the doctor before this showed up about a month ago, and I'm worried my dad will get suspicious about why I'm going again. My mom said she wouldn't tell but... I'd really appreciate it if you could answer these questions! Thanks!

 

 

 

Hey babe. Lots of girls worry about doctors visits of this kind. I want you to focus on how good you will feel after you find out whats going on rather than what the doc is going to do. You are going to feel so much better just knowing what is going on. 1) Use w/e you are comfortable with. You could aslo try calling the doc and seeing what she says. 2) Just wear something easy to get in and out of. 3) Only if that is what you want and it makes you more comfy. You don't have anything to hide so it probably fine. 4) People go to the doc when they are sick all the time. I'm sure he will just think it's that. If he asks just say it's 'girl stuff.' Guys usually back off from that.

Hey girlie, you might have an infection. You should probably see a doctor to find out what's going on and how to fix it. You can definitely get pregnant on your period. It's just a myth that you can't and that's not a risk you want to take.

I havne't started getting my period ragerly yet but I noticed its towards the end of themonth when I do get it, But this last month that I had it. I came in the teens not the twentys should I be concerned?
Also Ive been having discharge that's extra sticky and is it appose to me milky white?
Ive been getting a few pains down there nothing bad but its uncomfortable when they do come, I kinda feels like dull burn to the side right now, I can't exactly tell my mom about it because Im sick right now and ive been having pains all over. You may very well be fine, but since we're not doctors and we can't even see you face to face, it's not for us to tell you what's fine and what isn't. You know your body. Trust your instincts and talk to your doc!

i started my period in february of this year and it was really irregular. i got it for 3 months regularly (feb. march. april) but then i didnt get it again until july. also, in july it was SOOOO HEAVY. i leaked a lot and had to change pads/tampons really often. it was even worse because i got it just in time for vacation!! anyways, any month that i dont get my period i get INSANE discharge...like really bad. i also get it really bad right after my period. so annoying.

Hey girl. I can't tell you when you are going to get your period. There is no formula to figure that one out. Most time discharge doesn't smell nearly as much as you think. If it gets really heavy try wearing a pantyliner or pad. If you think that it really smells then you might need to see a doctor. Hey girl,

No sweat! This spotting is totally normal, and usually happens in the early days of your period - it's normally light before it gets heavy and red like we're all taught to expect. Just try wearing a pantyliner if it makes you uncomfortable and stay prepared with a pad nearby in case this is the start of your first real period Smile

Ok so I have been having hot flashes and headaches lately. But along with that, when I go pee I am noticing a wet spot on the bottom of my undies. Is it discharge? Thats the only thing I've noticed if it's discharge. I haven't seen anything on my tp when I wipe or anything! I am 12. Does this mean i will start my period soon if it is discharge?

 

 

 

Hey girl. You need to see a doctor about this. I'm not quite sure what is going on, but it will make you feel better to know for sure. As far as the wet spot goes, it may be discharge or a little of your pee leaking out.

MOD So I have had discharge for a long time... I don't know the exact amount of time. Its been so heavy to the point where I do wear panti liners because I get super itchy down there. I'm sick of it! Hey chica! Discharge is totally normal. It's part of puberty, and after you get your period, it should die down. Discharge is just your bod's way of saying that your period is on its way.

Mod: Before my period, my legs ache- A lot! I've tried pain killers, but they don't really help, and neither do Midol or Pamprin...My body disagrees with many things. Any suggestions as to what I could do to ease the ache?

Hey chica!  It usually comes a year or so before your period, so it's probably a sign!  It doesn't exactly stop when you start your period - you'll still have to deal with it from time to time.  I can't say for sure, but it sounds like you are on your way! Smile

Hey chica, try to take care of yourself by eating healthy and working out - that always helps manage PMS.  Talk to your doc if it gets super-painful or irregular, but remember that that's pretty normal when your period is in its first year or two.  Hang in there!  xoxo

I haven't gotten my period yet but my doc. said i am most likely to get it before the end of summer.... does discharge get really heavy before a period?

 

Hey chica, discharge does start before you get your period, but I'm not sure if the extra heaviness is a sign of it coming or not.  If it's really bothersome, ask your doc about it.  They might be able to explain the sitch.  Pantiliners can be a big help for your comfort, too!
