Make good grades great

Check these out, too...

  • 10 tips for acing your AP tests
  • 5 last-minute ways to lift your grades
  • 3 signs you need to give your study group the boot
  • How not to pull an all-nighter (and stay sane if you have to)
Starting a new school year is the perfect time for a fresh start. If you haven’t exactly been getting the grades that you wanted, make a change! It takes some effort to bust out those A’s, but it’ll be so worth it in the end. Just follow these tips, and you’ll be well on your way to a successful school year!

Pull yourself together

One of the first things you should do in your back-to-school prep is get organized! Whether you recycle your binders from last year (very earth-friendly!) or get new ones, label each of them clearly. Make sure you have extra paper and a specific binder or folder for each class, so your schoolwork doesn’t get jumbled together. If you can’t find that math worksheet, how will you ever expect to complete it? You can even assign a different colored highlighter to use for each class, or decorate the binders to make them more fun! The more organized you are, the easier it’ll be to get that work done.

Create a schedule

We know you’re busy, but if you make a study schedule, you’ll be way more likely to actually sit down and do your work. Keeping a schedule will let you plan out the day and stay on track, which means you’ll still have time to do all your favorite things. Time management is one of the keys to success, so if you start now, you’ll be in great shape for the future.

Form a study group

Be sure to pencil some group study time into your schedule. Studying with friends can be both helpful and productive, so call your buddies before that big science test that you’ve been stressing over. You can alternate whose house you use, which will give you a new environment each time and make the studying less boring.  Another advantage of including your friends? You’ll have instant help if you get stuck on a homework problem, which means fewer struggles and more success!

Ask your friends

Since you’re envious of your buddies’ grades, why not just ask them their secrets? Maybe one of your besties has a great way to remember vocab words, or another knows a quick and easy math trick. They’ll not only be flattered when you ask for their advice or suggestions, but they’ll also be ready to help. That’s what friends are for, right?

alright so, i just started 7th grade 1 month ago and i'm totally breaking down! in geometry, my teacher ALWAYS gives us 6 worksheets of stuff we don't even know and expect us to do it all without calculators! i used to study 2 hours, but when i started failing stuff i THOUGHT i knew, now i study for around 3-4 hours a night, so i never have time to relax. i usually sleep only around 2 hours a night and only eat maybe 1 meal a day. help, i don't know how to balance my study schedule with my sports/friends/family schedules? :/

Hey girl! It looks like you are one busy bee! With so much going on you should really try to manage your time better. Rather than hang around after school and chill out, start your homework as soon as you get home and dont wait till late at night to start. Then you should have plenty of time to spend with your family and you wont be stressed about the homework that awaits you, and you can go to bed at a reasonable hour. Also, try talking to your teacher about the homework she is giving out and let her know you are struggling. That way she will be aware and can give you the extra help you need. Best of luck!

Are there any good sites to help me with water pressure (PSI) math homework?

Hey chica! I would try googling "PSI math" or something similar to see what sites you can find. I'm sure you will find something helpful. You may also want to ask your teacher if he/she knows of any. If you need extensive help, you may want to consider finding a tutor. Good luck!

MOD!!!
I always get VERY nervous before tests. I almost pressure myself that I have to get a 100% on the test. I want to have a high enough grade, so if I do not do very good on my finals, I can still have a high A >95%. Any suggestions on how I can stress less about tests? Thanks!

Hey girl,

It's totally normal to want to do well, but it's important not to let that desire totally take over! Make sure you devote enough time well in advance to studying - this way, you feel prepared going into the test and can remind yourself of this when you feel really nervous. As for the percentages, sure one test is important, but it will not make or break your chances at finishing the year well. You have many other opportunities to boost your grade like class participation, homework, projects, etc. Try not to put SO much pressure on one little test!!!!!
