Dear Confused in Louisiana
You should be proud of your values and ability to empathize. It is hard to listen to insensitive people who make racist comments are oblivious to others’ feelings. It is also hard to change such people. I commend you for trying and encourage you to continue pointing out that all people have the same range of emotions. If racists would take off their blinders, they would see there are good people and bad people of all colors. Maybe it will make an impression on your small-minded classmates to see that slurs or stupid jokes can lose the respect of someone as special as you.

I have a problem something like that. You see I date a boy thats not the same color of me and my mom wants me to break up with him cause of that. But i'm not racist and I really like him. What do I do?

Same thing! I'm the only African-American in my class, and people think its offensive when referring to people as black.Once day, my friend asked me if i thought it was okay to refer to people as 'white' or 'black'. Usually, i just say African american or white american, but when i'm with my famiy, i say black and white Those words are more for personal use.

there are girls like that at my school. they're totally insensitive and mean. i dont think they even care about all the feelings of the people the talk about. and the worst thing is that they get away with it. i really wish that just once they would get some sort of punishment for all of the people that they've hurt. after everything i've done to try and get them caught in the act. it's sooo unfair!
