Am I a late bloomer?

 
I was reading that you usually get your period around the same time your mom did. If that's true, I should have my period by now. I was wondering if that's normal not to get around the same time. Am I just a really late bloomer?

 

That is not necessarily true. The important thing to remember when it comes to periods is that EVERY girl is different and develops at a different rate. Some girls may get their periods around the same time their mothers did, and some will get it earlier or later. It’s not unusual for girls to get their first periods in their late teens. It’s really just up to Mother Nature!
 
Comparing your body to your mother’s, your aunt’s or your sister’s is silly when you think about it. When they mature earlier than you do, these comparisons can make you think that there must be something wrong with your, since your not following the schedule their bodies set. But , babe, you’ve gotta remember: There is no normal when it comes to puberty. A chat with your doctor can really help put your mind at ease…and make sure there really isn’t anything wrong with your bod.

MOD MOD MOD I'm fifteen and I don't have my period yet. I have all the signs, but no period. Why?

 

Hey girly, it's not unheard of for girls to get their periods when they're 18, so don't worry too much. You should consult with your doctor to see if he/she can provide a better explanation.

Im only 12 and im in yr 7 and i havent got my period yet and i think it will never come and I wont be a girl. My mum had hers early when she was a child and my sister started having hers when she was in yr 6 and im scared and i dont know what 2 do Frown

I think I got my period! I went to the bathroom and there was this light brown wet stuff in my undies. It wasn't gloopy or gunky just... wet. Is this my period? How will my mom understand when it is just brown, and believe me when I say it's my period? It's like a really light brown. Did I just not wipe enough?




Hey girlie,

It definitely sounds like the beginning of your period. Normally on the first day of your period, it's lighter and brownish/pinkish before getting heavier and turning red. Keep an eye on it and see if it gets heavier. But don't worry - mom will understand because everyone's period is like this!

MOD MOD MOD My mom had a hormone problem and she got her period when she was 16. Will that mean I will get my period when I am 16? I am right on track to get mine... except I don't have discharge.

 

Hey girl, I think I've already answered your previous questions on this, but everyone gets their period at a different time. The discharge will come and then you'll have your period. You're perfectly fine chicky, no worries. Smile Smile
