Ditch dark under-eye circles

I have always grown up with dark circles under my eyes. All my friends always ask if I am tired, so I always lie and say I am because I really hate the way I look. Is there anything that can get rid of them?

The first thing you have to know about circles under your eyes is that there are many possible causes. It could be anything from genetics to lack of sleep to dehydration. However, despite what the cause of your dark circles may be, there’s no need to panic ‘cause we’ll help you out.

The facts

From birth, the skin under your eyes is naturally delicate and thin. However, as we age, the layers of skin and fat under our eyes continue to thin, which causes the blood vessels to become more visible. This gives the appearance of dark circles.

Helpful tips

If the circles under your eyes appear on a regular basis rather than the morning after an all-night cram sesh, consider seeing a doctor. Since there are so many possible causes to the discoloration under your eyes, a doc will be able to better help you discover the true cause of the dark circles.

When it comes to at-home treatments, you can always try the good ol’ cucumber standby. Place to fresh cucumbers over your eyes and the dark circles and see if that helps the discoloration to fade.

Another solution to your dark circles is to make sure you’re eating a proper diet. Dark circles are often attributed to a deficiency of water and vitamins. Be sure to eat plenty of fruits ‘n’ veggies, and be on the lookout for foods with high salt content, as they can cause your body to hold onto excess water and store it in weird places, like under your eyes.

Although it may seem frustrating and a longer process to remove your dark circles, relaxing has been proven to relieve stress and skin discoloration at the same time. So next time you’re feeling a li’l overworked, take a moment to breathe deep and appreciate the good things life has to offer. Like GL!
