Redo your room! A+ desk decor

Wanna score straight A’s this semester? Start with a squeaky clean desk! Dust ‘er off then hit the stores for a few of our favorite office organizational items. We’ll keep you from forgetting your homework, hunnie, we promise!

Bigger is better

We love tear-off desk calendars for keeping track of the ins and outs of everyday life. They sit right on the surface of your desk like a pad of humongous sheets of paper. You can work on top of them, easy peasy. Bonus? You can doodle in the margins while thinking on your essay’s intro.

At-A-Glance 30% Recycled Academic Desk Paper Calendar, $9, officedepot.com

All things bright

Stock your pencil cup with different colored pens or markers, and use each color to represent a different activity—after school sports practice, dance rehearsal, QT with your friends, doctors appointments, homework assignments and tests. If you like to use one huge notebook for all of your classes, you could also write your notes in different colors to make them easier to find.

Paper Mate Retractable Gel Pens, $13, officemax.com

Ingenious inbox

Grab a few letter-sized plastic trays or make your own by cutting up a cereal box and lining it with fun paper. Label them clearly with their purposes. You’ll definitely want one for homework that’s heading back to school, but you could use them for upcoming test prep materials or project research or forms that needs to be signed by Mom or Dad. Make it a habit to keep the papers in the proper trays, and to tuck your HW into your backpack in the morning!

Staples Black Plastic Letter Tray, $5, staples.com

File forward

Have you ever been trying to study for a test only to find that all of your notes are crammed in the bottom of your locker or balled up in your backpack? Perfect for midterms and finals, file folders can help you stow worksheets, old quizzes and homework for use later in the year. Make one for each subject you’re taking, or for each thematic unit within a class. When you’re finished (for now) with a sheaf of papers, simply put them in the file you’ve already created.

Bright Stockholm Desktop File, $17, containerstore.com

I'm about to start my freshman year of high school And I just found out that I have NO classes with my best friend and that my other best friend moved to a different town! I also found out that I have classes with my enemies!!Plus I have a crush on this nerdy guy that's finally going to be at my school but everyone I know would laugh if they saw him... I'm not really good at making new friends and very shy... Any advice?

Hey girlie,

Look at this as a time to make a fresh start, branch out, and enjoy all these new experiences! It's a fact of life that we're gonna have to deal with people we don't like, so just try not to get involved in any drama. Don't cause it by saying things or starting rumors, and you should be fine Smile But also remember to be yourself and speak up to your new classmates. Without your bestie there as a crutch, you can make even more new friends and get to know everyone without the pressure of including your friend in all the convos. As for the crush...remember that people change a lot during high school and that high school isn't always as catty or judgmental as you might think it is. It's totally ok to keep crushin' on him - and even getting to know him better. What matters is how you carry yourself and how you feel about him. If you seem ashamed because he's a "nerd," people will judge you. But if you're confident and you tell people about the qualities that make him great, things might end up a lot differently Smile

So my room used to be my older brothers room and the walls are white but really dirty...and have holes like the size of ping pong/tennis balls...we r on a tight budget and i cant redo my room (money issue) do u hav any tips on ways to decorate them for free
Thanks in advance
P.s. my room is really small
Help

Hey babe,

First off, move everything away from the walls and get in there with a bucket of soapy water! Scrub the walls with a sponge, then wipe the soap away with a paper towel. A lil hard work will get the dirty spots off and give new life to the white paint. Try covering the holes with prints of your fave paintings, photos of you and your friends, original artwork from your more creative besties or fam members, or posters of your top celebs. You can also use thumbtacks to hang your necklaces and other jewelry around the room to give it a more girly feel Smile
