Whether you’ve outgrown your old kicks or simply want to
replace your sneaks, it’s time to think about paying it forward.
Now that we’re in the midst of back-to-school shopping
season, let’s take a look back at all the stuff we’re replacing. Whether you’ve
outgrown your old kicks or simply want to replace your sneaks, it’s time to
think about paying it forward.
That’s was rising eight grader Nicholas Lowinger is doing.
Since he was young—think 5 or 6—he’s been giving his gently used shoes to those
in need. Now with a charity of his very own, aptly named “Gotta Have Sole,”
he’s urging you to help start a movement.
While you can donate your used shoes to shelters or send
them on to Nicholas, he’s also encouraging companies and individuals to donate
new shoes, too. Because folks wear their shoes differently, kids get the best
fit from a fresh pair. Chat up Mom and Dad and see if they’d be willing to take
advantage of the many buy one, get one half-off deals at chain shoe stores. And
when you head back to school, get your classmates in on the action! Host a shoe
drive for a local shelter and see how much good your school can do.
