When you hit the halls, you’re probably psyched to see your
friends, your crush, even your favorite teachers again. But for many students,
BTS means coming face-to-face with bullies and tons of intolerant tweens and
Wanna stand up and make a difference? Take the Straight
But Not Narrow pledge (along with celebs
like Cory Monteith, Avan Jogia and Josh Hutcherson) to support your LGBTQ
friends and classmates. Spread the word, and, even better, film your fellow
classmates taking the pledge as they walk through the doors on the first day of
school. Already started? Set up a table before homeroom or during lunch periods
and invite your peers to take (and tape) their pledge.
Here it is:
“I will do my part to make sure this is a great school year
for everyone. It doesn’t matter if you are gay, straight or somewhere in
between. Just be you, because it’s all good with me.”
You can upload your school’s video to YouTube and then email
the link to firstname.lastname@example.org or tweet
it to @wearesbnn. Put the words SBNN or Straight But Not Narrow in the title!
