Parents and puberty: What if my dad finds out?

 
My mom and I have a decent relationship, but I am totally freaking out about my dad finding out that I wear bras and have pantiliners in my purse, just in case I get my period. What should I do?

 

I’ve got one word for ya, babe: Relax. Your dad isn’t dumb. He knows girls grow up, just like guys do. And thanks to living with your mom (and an all-about-your-bod class in school, I bet), he’s got the basics of bras and periods down. While it might be embarrassing to know that any guy knows when it’s that time of the month…or that bra sitting in the laundry basket really is yours…take heart by understanding that your dad knew this was coming. It’s not a shock, trust me.

 

I’m not saying you’ve gotta dish the gory details to dear old dad—your mom or another trusted female should be your go-to source, since they’ve got the 411 from personal experience. But when you really need to stockpile pads and Dad’s the only one around with a car and a credit card, it can be handy to bite the bullet and ask him to take ya to the store. Swallow your pride—and your embarrassment—and get on with it.

 

And one more thing? Chances are he’ll be embarrassed, too, which means no awkward questions, thank goodness!

I have a three day volleyball tournament tomorrow and im on my period! Were staying in a hotel with roommates. It will be day 3 of my period. Should I wear tampons? I've tried before and they aren't very comfortable! Also, the spandex we wear show your undie lines really badly! My mom won't let me wear thongs so what type of undies should i wear? thanks




Hey girlie,

You definitely want full coverage undies if you're on your period. It's your uniform though, so there's not much you can do. But try to relax - no one is looking at your panty lines! They're thinking about practicing, hitting the ball, the nervous butterflies in their stomachs, and winning the game...promise! As for the tampons, you gotta do what feels best for you. If a tampon is inserted correctly, it won't be uncomfortable at all - you'll hardly be able to feel it. Personally, tampons are WAY easier and more comfy for me, so I would keep practicing on those days leading up to the tournament and wear those during the trip Smile

a couple of days ago I noticed in my underwear that it was a different color. I ignored it. Then yesterday I got my period. I was so confused. How do I tell my mom or do I tell my sister ir friend who had hers? Am I still going to grow? I also have really small boobs. Will they grow bigger?

Don't be embarrassed to talk to your mom about your period -- she's been there! It's up to you whether or not you tell your sister and friends, but you should definitely let your mom in on the info so that she can get you set up with pads and so she knows what's going on in your life. People don't stop growing until they're 18, so you -- and your boobs -- will likely keep growing if you stay healthy!

i have the same same thing but one day my dad found out i wear bras and he told me to take it off... it's just i don't think he can face the facts that im half way through middle school and need more things now... i mean im c cups and cami's don't help so i just wore a sweater for the rest of the day

So I'm on my period and I was gonna take a showe, before my shower I went pee well I forgot to flush!! I mean how do you forget to flush!!!! Well I'm kept thinking that I was forgetting something when I went to my room...well 30 minutes later...my dad goes to the bathroom, then I remember omg I forgot to flush! I'm really embarrassed! I'm laying in bed crying of humiliation!!!! I'm so embarrassed idk what to do. I told my dad good night and he acted like nothing had appenened, he told me good night then patted me on the back...I couldn't tell if it was a awww my lite girl is a woman hind of pat on the back or just a ily...I'm really freaked out and embarrassed plz help! Cry

Aw babe, stop that crying! We all do stuff like this now and then. It's NOT a big deal! I know you feel embarrassed but, honestly, you're family. It's not like your crush found the icky toilet bowl! Dad changed your dirty diapers as a baby, rubbed your back while you were sick with the flu, has gotten sneezed on/coughed on... he's seen it all, so he probably isn't as grossed out as you'd think. He knows what a period is and, while he might've been shocked or even a little blah about finding it, he's over it. So you should be too <3 Sleep it off, then wake up tomorrow refreshed. Put it behind you...and learn your lesson so you make sure you don't do it again ;) Hugs!
