Knee shaving secrets: Nix the nicks

Check these out, too...

  • I have hair on my upper lip, like a mustache!
  • Just shaved my legs, but I'm still seeing roots!
  • I can't stop tearing my hair out--help!
  • See ya, bedhead: 5 bad-hair-day busters
  • 4 steps to longer lashes
I've been shaving for a while, now but whenever I try to shave my kneecap and right underneath it, I feel I'm cutting my skin. Afterward I always get these red bumps. Everywhere else is fine but right there I always have problems. Help?

Your knees are more sensitive than the rest of your body. This is common and there are many ways to prevent the itchy red bumps and cuts! Make sure you shave downward with warm water, going in the direction that the hair grows. Otherwise you could be catching the skin on your knee.

I’ve found that the key to getting a perfect shave over trouble spots like around your knees is to try out different angles. Stretching your leg out in front of you might help ya get one patch while twisting around to do the back of your knee might help ya shave another patch. Take your time, use lots of shaving gel and a fresh razor, and you should be just fine.

Good luck!

MOD MOD MOD... Do you need to use shaving cream to shave?

Hey missy, you don't have to use it, but it's reccommended. Some girlies use soap or just water. Just find what works for you. Hope this helps! Smile Smile

ok, so..i saw this article and it really helped! But my knees rnt rlly my problem...when i shave my pits like i get these bumbs, so it never totally gets shaved and if i try to press to shave it all it usually cuts me...then after i shave (even though u can still see the hair -.-) i have these red spots as if i cut it....is there anything that can help, it wasnt like this when i first started shaving them, just about a month or two ago it started...help!
thx - xoxo - mic

Hey babe!

It sounds like you've got razor burn. Either your razor is too dull and hurt your skin or you're allergic to an ingredient in your shaving cream. Try and put some calming creme on your bumps until they clear up. xoxox!

MOD MOD MOD, Also I have bumps on my kneecaps, and when i can shave im afraid to shave there. why the bumps ? thanks, again!

Hey girlie, the bumps could be irritation from a dull razor.  I would slap on some hydrocortisone and give it a day or two to calm down, then you're free to shave again.

MOD MOD MOD MOD MOD MOD !!!
I have some-what long hair all over my legs. on my outer thighs up closer to my stomach and ALL OVER. my mom wont let me shave and its embarasing. PLEASE PLEASE HELP!!!

Hey girlie, it's never a good idea to disobey what it is your parents think.  But if it really makes you uncomfortable, sit down with your Mom and explain this to her calmly.  Just be sure not to argue with her about it.

MOD MOD MOD MOD MOD MOD MOD!!
lately my legs have been really itchy! i dont know if its from shaving, or from the lotion i put after i shave. i use a victoria secret lotion and my mom said it could be from the fragrances in it. the thing is though is that ive been using this lotion after shaving for a while now! why would it just kick in now? and do u have any tips so i cant stop the itching madness?! i grew some pimple-like bumps on my legs and i need to get rid of them! thanks

Hey girly! Do you have dry skin? Sometimes that can make me itchy. Usually, exfoliating with a scrub helps. Otherwise, it's very possible that this lotion could be irritating your skin!

Mod Mod Mod I have 20-20 vision other than eating apples and carrots how do I keep my eyes in tip top shape so that I dont have eye problems?? Thanks A Bunch!

Hey girl, by limiting your use of laptops and TV: screens can be totally harsh on your eyes. Be sure to let them rest by playing outside, reading and doing activities that aren't so plugged in.

MOD OH MOD HELP!!!!
I came home from school yesterday and took a shower, and there was brom discharge in my undies. Today when I came home I wiped and there was some different things I saw...
My normal discharge mixed with blood spots (at least 10 small ones blood red not pink) and tons and tons of brown!!! Am I getttin my period soon?????
Thanks MOD

Hey girl,

Yep, it sounds like it's on its way! It could be a false alarm but it sounds like this could be the first day or two of your period. Stay prepared with a pad in your purse/backpack so you don't get caught off guard if it gets heavier!

MOD! MOD! MOD!
I kind of have hairy underarms, and even though my mom says to not worry about it, I'm still self-conscious. These girls at my school saw it and told all their friends. I'm afraid it'll be all over school soon. My mom doesn't let me shave, but I've already did it a few times. What should I do?

Hey girl,

Talk to mom seriously the next chance you get. Don't get upset or whiney about it ("everyone ELSE is shaving, mom! this is so unfair") - instead, be honest about how insecure it makes you feel. Also explain to her that kids are really critical now, so it doesn't make sense to you to be made fun of for something that you want to change - and can easily fix - in the first place. Finally, tell her you understand that shaving is a responsibility because you're going to have to do it every day/every few days forever. But assure her that you're ready for that and you're confident you can handle this. Again, be mature and honest with her. Giving it another try is the only way to get her to change her mind <3

i go really slow when i shave my knees, but it also helps if you run the shower, because, it was soften you skin. and putting on too much cream can clog your razor, so i use hair conditioner. it works really and it comes in many smells

MOD MOD MOD okay so i seem to always get cuts and nicks when i use a fresh razor blade, but i get a better, more comfortable shave when its a little dull. is that weird?

Hey girlie,

That's definitely normal.  New razors can be super sharp and somewhat irritating to your skin.

MOD MOD MOD
Whenever I shave down there I always get these itchy red bumps. I use shaving cream, not soap. What should I do?

Hey girlie!

Sounds like you've got a case of razor burn.  When you were shaving, you irritated your skin.  It could either be an irritation with your razor (it's too dull) or the shaving cream (your skin just doesn't like it.)  For now, try putting on some calming creme like hydrocortisone to relieve the itching and redness.

I wax my hair. I waxed my underarms a month and 1 week ago and now i have to go back. You have to shave every 2-3 days! Trust me, although waxing hurts a little, its better than razor burns and the 5'o clock shadow you get.
