Help your friends score A's...without cheating

Check these out, too...

  • 10 tips for acing your AP tests
  • 5 last-minute ways to lift your grades
  • 3 signs you need to give your study group the boot
  • How not to pull an all-nighter (and stay sane if you have to)
You don’t have to be a teacher’s pet to have half the class tryin’ to copy your answers. If you’ve ever been labeled a smartie pants, though, you know how hard it is to keep your school work to yourself and keep your friends happy. We’ve got insider secrets to stop would-be cheaters in their tracks…and help you lend a hand without handing out all the answers.

When they don’t know the answer? Offer to tutor

The best way to get your buds to think for themselves is to show ‘em how it’s done. When a bestie asks for answers to last night’s HW in homeroom, tell her you’re not into sharing…but if she wants, you could hang out after school to help her get the algebra formulas down pat.

When they’re begging for a quick look? Give ‘em a once-over

If a bud sees you’re take-home test sitting on your desk, ready to be handed in, and asks for a quick glance, shrug her off and slip your test into a folder. Peeking equals cheating, so don’t give in. Do offer to skim her work to see if you can point her in the right direction.

When they’re lost before a big test? Call a study group

Your buddies have been flailing all semester long. Now it’s the week before midterms and they look totally lost. Pull together a study group and bring your materials—notes, quizzes, old tests. If you feel comfortable letting others use your work, suggest pooling your resources and quizzing each other or creating fresh flashcards. Everyone will benefit from your right answers, but you won’t be handing them an easy A. They’ll need to learn the material (just like you did) to ace that exam.

What are your best tips, babes?

In most places, you can just look at someone's answers by getting up to get a tissue.

I have a friend who gets low grade in reading and
kids talk about her behind her back and call her the "r" word I want to help her but how do I help her without hurting her feelings?

Hey girlie,

You could subtly ask her to do homework together sometime. If it's before a big test or while you're working on a big homework assignment, you could work together to make sure you both understand what's going on! Or you could recommend a good tutor, if you've heard of anyone who does a great job. Otherwise, I would try to stay out of it - it's her business and her parents' business, but it's still awesome that you're looking out for her Smile

MOD MOD MOD!
This seems a dumb question, but how do you start a study group? Whats the best way to start one? Thanks.]

Hey Chica,

The most important thing ya need for a study group is people, so ask around in your classes if anyone would be interested in starting one. Chances are, other people have thought about it, but just haven't tried to actually do it, so you could be helping out lots of people! Make plans to meet in the library before or after school, or someone's house if that is easier. It can be hard to find a time that works for everyone, but there should at least be a few people who can meet up with you. Then, hit the books and ask each other questions. That's the great thing about groups– you can put together everyone's knowledge so that everyone benefits! Good luck!

MOD MOD MOD I really need to get my grades up ASAP. I really want to start a study group, but my friends live all over the town, so do you know how I can start one? I'm not very organized and need help with that too, like my locker is SUPER tiny and I have to share with another girl. Help? I'm just a hot mess! haha, but really, middle school is so much harder, and im in 7th grade!

Hey girl, you could start one with just yourself or other kids in your class. Take everything out your locker and re-stock and pile it up. Throw out what you don't need anymore. Hope this helps!! Smile Smile

MOD MOD MOD
Okay so I got an in school suspension along with my boyfriend. There was a note passed around and i wrote ONE thing on it. Then I was the one in trouble. That wasn't the big part of it though. The part I'm being punished for is HUGGING my boyfriend AFTER school. The principal called us into his office AFTER school and called our parents. He yelled at us and my boyfriend got dismissed. Then my mum came. He showed my mum the note and told them about the hug. I am 13. I think they over reacted alot! It's not like we mad out during school or anything. This is unfair but I have taken responsibilty for the note. What do i do? Please help! thanx!

Hey girlie,

I doubt this is going to get you actually suspended or expelled, so personally I think I would just apologize and let it go. You gotta pick your battles! It's less stress to say you're sorry, remember that they don't like hugging in the hallways, and move on. Even though school was over, they could still see it as unnecessary PDA - ugh, right? But that's their rules so you could avoid this headache if you just respect that...and wait til you get outside before you hug your huggable BF Smile
