Wanna combine your love of summertime weather while celebrating Yoga Month? Sign up for a hot yoga class (after checking with your doc and the yoga studio to see if it's OK for teens). Why do yoga in the heat? It makes those stretching poses way easier while burning loads of cals. Did we mention it's a great way to get your mind off school drama? We're in!


Hydrate, hydrate, hydrate!
Seriously. It's called “hot yoga” for a reason. If you've got a serene sweat sesh planned for a post-school de-stresser, guzzle down that H2O throughout the day. You'll be sweating it all out long before the instructor says namaste.


Bring a towel.
Downward Facing Dog is a tricky position enough as it is. Adding slippery hands or feet to the mix is just begging for you to lose your grip on your now slick yoga mat. Give yourself an absorbent layer on top of your yoga mat to prevent any fumbles.


Wear breathable clothes.
Of course you know to leave your stifling soccer jerseys in your locker, but even comfy cotton knit tees can't take the heat. We're talking sweat-wicking, stay cool fabrics that keep Sun Salutations a breeze.

MOD MOD MOD I am 12 years old and would like to get faster (running wise) and stronger. I would like to focus more on running to get faster for sports (like lacrosse, basketball, and track.) The thing is, I can't run by myself (my parents don't like me going places by myself usually, I also partly agree because i don't know the area as well as I should), and my friends are almost always busy, and i don't have access to a gym. I don't know what to do. Also, what is a good way to build up arm stength? Please help!

 

Hey girlyfriend, are your parents ever available to go running with you? If not see if there's a sports coach at your school you could train with. Maybe you could work something out where you run with them before and/or after school. That way you'll get training from a professional and they'll tell you what to do to maintain your running strength. For arm strength try push ups and lifting weights from 5-10lbs. Doing little things will help too, like lifting grocery bags, taking out the trash, and carrying your books up the steps. Hope all this helps ya!! Smile Smile

i'm getting really mad. I'm apple shaped (big tummy, small legs) i just don't understand. i eat right, and i exercise 1 hour everyday, and i'm still overweight. i weight 140 lbs! my belly fat just won't go away. whenever i loose weight, i loose it all in my legs. is there anything i can do to become less apple shaped? thanks.

Have you talked to your doctor about your body shape? He or she may be able to help you find specific routines that work for you or let you know if your body shape is do to genetics. Have you talked to your doctor? He or she might be able to confirm that your shape is due to genetics and not your eating habits or exercise routine.
