  • Burned out? 5 ways to get psyched for school again
  • 10 tips for acing your AP tests
  • 5 last-minute ways to lift your grades
  • 3 signs you need to give your study group the boot
  • How not to pull an all-nighter (and stay sane if you have to)
Your to-do list is a mile long, but you just wanna sit back and catch up on Pretty Little Liars? We know it can be super hard to scoot your bum off the couch, but we’ve got eight cinchy ways to get you back in action and crossing off that list in no time. Get ready!

Take it one step at a time.

Instead of holding off reading A Christmas Carol until the night before the test, read a chapter or two every night a week before the test. Or try making your bed in the morning, then straightening up your desk in the afternoon, and vacuuming your room at night. When you break up big projects or homework assignments into smaller tasks, it seems a lot more manageable – and you’re less likely to hold off doing it.

Reward yourself.

After earning that A in math for the marking period, treat yourself to a manicure. For every two hours you spend writing that paper, watch an episode of The Lying Game. Knowing you’re getting something you want makes in the end makes it a lot easier to complete the job you have to do. After all, you’ve earned it, chica!

Write it all down.

When you’ve got crazy homework piling up, make a list of everything that needs to get done, and how much time you think it will take you. Start doing the assignments that will take you the most time first  - it saves a lot of time and energy that way! When you can see everything that has to get done, it’s easier to start doing it.

Make it picture-perfect.

Picture yourself giving the best oral presentation your English teacher has ever seen, or how neat your room will look after it’s clean.  Then start taking the steps you need to make in order to get there. It’s easy to make your vision a reality now!

Put things in perspective.

Sometimes it seems like your schoolwork has nothing to do with your real life. Instead, think about the lessons you can learn from it: instead of thinking of the Civil War as something that happened ages and ages ago, think of how North and the South compromised to make a better country – kind of like how you and your BFF fought over what you were being for Halloween, then made a decision after talking it out. Or remind yourself that while the PowerPoint you’re making on the central nervous system seems really boring, the information you’re learning in the end will get you that A in science – which you need to get into your dream college.

Get moving.

Exercise releases chemicals in your brain called endorphins, which make you feel happy. When you’re feeling stressed out, dance around your room to “Party Rock,” or take a bike ride around your block. When you feel happy and confident, you’ll get better work done.

Make a power playlist.

When you listen to music that motivates you, you’ll find it easier to get moving! Make a playlist of songs that makes you feel like you can accomplish anything! Need some suggestions? We like Selena Gomez’s “Who Says,” Natasha Bedingfield’s “Unwritten,” and the Glee cast’s “Loser Like Me.”

Invite a friend to tag along.

When you’re working with someone else who’s super motivated, her determination will rub off on you. Can’t bring yourself to study for your music history test? Ask that friend who’s gaga for Gershwin to help you study. Are you dreading starting that Spanish project? Partner up with an amiga and work together over chips and salsa. Sometimes, two really is better than one!

please help I've been crying all day. My neighbors put their dog down today, and I loved him so much. He did bad things like ate shoes when we dog sat him, but I always forgave him. And we would get mad, but we would always take care of him. Now I don't know what to do. I am so mad at my neighbors because they said he was suffering, but I blame it on them even though I know it's their fault. I know he wasn't my dog, but I loved him so so much. How do I get over it? Please help I can't stop crying.

Hey girly! It's totally understandable to be upset and sad. But, remember that your neighbors are probably even more upset than you are about it. After all, they lived with their dog every day! There must have been a good reason why they would put down their dog. If their dog was sick, then they loved it enough to not make it suffer. We had to put our dog, Jethro, down last year. It was horrible. But, he had cancer and refused to eat. My parents didn't want him to suffer and be in pain. And, that's how your neighbors most likely feel too. They love their dog so much that they don't want him to be in pain. Now, he's in a better place.

Thanks! This is just what I needed for the first year of high school - I was amazed at how much homework there is than in middle school, and my sister drives me crazy because she never has any homework to do at home (she has a study hall last period). Smile

Have you taken AP European History? I have a C in the class and my parents won't let me transfer to regular world history and my teacher doesn't teach at all and gives super hard tests. This class is taking away from my social life and whole life in general and makes me want to kill myself. Can you please give me some study tips? I'm not cheating or asking you to do my homework for me so please help!!! Thanks!!!

Talk to your teacher or anyone in your class that is doing well about tutoring you. That way, you can have one-on-one help, as opposed to being in a classroom setting.
