My friends make fun of my hair down there!

 
My friends always make fun of my hair down there. They always ask if I’ve shaved “the forest” yet. It’s annoying! I keep it neat, don’t get me wrong, but my mom told me it’s supposed to be there. What should I do?

 

Oy! Besties really are the best, but sometimes you’ve just gotta tell ‘em to mind their own business. How you keep your hair down there (or anywhere else on your body, for that matter) is 100-percent your business.

 

Pubic hair is totally natural and it is suppose to be there and it’s not disgusting! Your pubic hair protects the sensitive skin surrounding your private parts from getting irritated by your clothes. Trust me, if you shaved yourself bald down there and then put on a pair of jeans, you’d notice a huge difference.

 

To shave or not to shave (or wax or otherwise remove hair…) is a decision that can only (and should only!) be made by you. What you choose to do with your bod is nobody else’s concern. Don’t feel pressured to change your ways just ‘cause your friends rag on your habits. My advice? Tell ‘em to shut up, then change the subject.

My friend just showed me something where they discussed how its not good to completely shave down there because it said we have hair there for a reason and its to help keep things away from our vagina. But then I heard since we wear modern underwear and its not like in ancient times where bathing and keeping clean was tougher, that its good to shave.

Plus if our hair is there to keep away things then why do guys even have pubic hair because their parts all hang away from their body. So I think shaving is good for a number of reasons.

HELP ASAP I really need help!
Ok, so my period ended (I thought so) 2 days ago and it came back just now. Tomorrow for PE my class is doing a water polo lesson. I'm really scared cause 1) I don't know how to use tampons. 2) what would yhe guys in my class say? and 3) what do I tell me teacher? Do u think I should try to use a tampon, or just skip the lessons? (They are today, tomorrow and the next day)plus my mom only has super jumbo tampons.

 

 Hey girly, why don't you ask your mom to pick up some smaller tampons, like a sport tampon. Hey! the only way to really feel reassured is to talk to your doctor about all of these questions Smile To be honest, that's what we mods just have to tell you guys when you come to us with any health concerns. You may very well be fine, but since we're not doctors and we can't even see you face to face, it's not for us to tell you what's fine and what isn't. You know your body. Trust your instincts and talk to your doc!

hey! take the TP and fold it in the shape of a pad, then keep rolling it up until it has about the same thickness as a pad. Check it every hour and change it if you need to. hang in there Smile

Hey! Take some toilet paper and roll it up to make a temporary pad until your mom gets home and can take you to the store. Change it more often than you would a normal pad, too. good luck!

Hey girly, you could try having a convo with your mom. Make sure your calm, whining always makes parents want to say no. Ask her if it's okay and tell her that it makes you feel better when the hair is gone. Ask her what her concerns are and see if you can make her feel better about your shaving. If she still feels like your too young, try trimming to keep things neat and tidy until your older.  Best of luck.

Its a personal choice!

A lot of people believe you dont need to start shaving until you start becoming intimate with guys because thats how they like it but you should start shaving when you want and when you feel you are ready. Personally, it makes me feel better about myself when I shave and take care of down there but do what you want.

I have a yeast infection Frown ive had it for a few days like 3 maybe but yesterday i made a good decision and told my mom even tho it was really embaressing for me...but she gave me like garlic pills and other stuff to take that she says will help and i put on some of that yeast infection cream...but is all of this neccisary or what are the most affective things to use? bcuz i really want to get rid of it!!!

I feel exactly the same way! But DON'T make the dumb mistake of shaving or waxing down there! The skin of your pubic area is very sensitive! If they say something mean to you, tell their parents and yours too. That's YOUR business ONLY!

So I posted this on another question as a comment but it's taking forever so can I please answer this:
I started my period (not my first I've had if for a year) and like I always do I put a tampon in. Exept this time it wouldn't go in all the way. Idk why it's so hard for me now when I've been putting in tampons in for a year. And then since I couldn't get it in, I started to get nervous so it made my down there tense up. Now it's even harder to get it in! So here are my q's
1) do u have any idea why it won't go in
2) and how do I calm down? I'm nervous that there is something wrong with me Frown

Now that you're worrying about it, you are tensing up and making it not go in.  You may have just been going in from a weird angle and not realized it.  Wait a day and try again.  I don't think anything is wrong, but if you still can get it in later today or tomorrow, talk to your mom and she might be able to give you advice.  xoxo

Hey! Have you ever been to sleep away camp? i sort of learned how to change in front of people there. You just sort of have to put clothes on over your clothes and take off the ones underneath using the new clothes as cover? It's hard to explain. I would just always carry a pad with you in your purse or pocket and if you notice it's happening just go to the bathroom like you normally would to change into the pad. There's no need to clue your teacher in unless you feel more comfortable that way.

Don't worry, that's totally normal! The hair "down there" is usually wiry and coarse, so when it rubs up against your undies it can sometimes fall out. It's not a big deal! Smile To cut down on this, you could always trim the strands a bit to keep them a little more manageable. But that's a personal decision and totally up to you!

Hey chica! If you feel comfortable talking about it, you can tell your mom. I don't think you have to though. It's totally normal, and whether you shave or not is your preference. Nair is basically a lotion that gets rid of hair. Personally, I think it's a little messy and doesn't always leave you as smooth as shaving does.

Claire, Most of us shave, some of us, like me, shave it completely and some like my friends leave some hair so its up to you on how you want it to look. As far as the sex thing, just because you shave all of it doesnt mean you are active because I have friends who are sexually active and dont shave all of it, they just trim it really well. So that part is your decision. But I do understand we want it to look a certain way when we start doing things with guys. And to get rid of bumps and rashes use a good moisturizer every day.

I cant use a tampon! I tried today and I wasn't even close to doing this right! Frown I know to wash your hands, take it out and push the tampon out and stuff but I don't know where to out it. I guess, was I putting it in the wrong place? It was to hard! What am I doing wrong I just can't find where to put it in. I think I also used the last tampon in the house so no more trying for me. Hey pinkkattie1999, it’s okay calm down and breathe. It’s understandable why this is a little difficult for you, considering this is your first time inserting a tampon. There’s only one place for it to go. So the next time you want to wear one, take your time putting it in. Get into a comfortable position, maybe propping one leg up on something, like the toilet will give you a better angle to insert it. If you really can’t figure it out, visit the tampon website for help or search google for directions. No worries. Hope this helps! Xoxo

I too am really confused about what to do with my bush;). I hate my hair down there, but when I shave it off, I get a rash, it doesn't even come off all the way, and it grows back in like 3 days. I want to know what the normal thing is for shaving the hair down there. And please don't tell me its whatever feels most comfortable because I want to know what most people do, so when I'm finally ready for sex,I won't be embarrassed when my pants come off.

Hey girl,

The truth is, everyone at that camp - your teacher, your friends - will have their periods at some point. It's a fact of life. You can't prevent it from coming, so you might as well accept it and stay calm when dealing with it. If people find out, you'll deal with it when it happens. You'll shrug your shoulders and you'll tell them yeah I have my period, so what? No one will laugh at you - chances are, they'll be interested in it. I had my period before my best friends got theirs and they were SO interested, they always asked me questions about how I dealt with it and what it felt like. It's actually fun to be the person who is experiencing something that no one else has before, because they're all so curious about it. As for saying "I can't stay calm when she asks me" ... yes you can. Fake it til you feel calm for real - even if you're feeling crazy inside, take a deep breath and talk like it's no big deal. You can trick yourself into being laid back about it, I promise!

No problem, girl! If you're using tampons, I'd personally probably stash a whole normal-sized box of regular tampons (I think it's about 18) in your duffel bag. It's wayyyy more than you'd ever use over 4 days, but that way, there are no surprises - if you have to change one after two hours one day, you won't panic because you're running low. As for pads, try to figure out how often you change your pads - every 4 hours? Every 3? Every 6? Divide that into each day and then always bring about 5 extras, just in case Smile

If she doesn't ask, just stay calm and act confident, like nothing is wrong. Nothing IS wrong - you just have your period, which is a totally normal thing! Don't act awkward and don't talk too much - just take a deep breath and act normal. She won't suspect a thing Smile If she does ask, just shrug and stay calm. Tell her yes you have it and you've had it for a while, so it's really no big deal. (Even if you don't REALLY think that yet.) If you act like you're cool with it, she won't try to talk to you about it because she'll know you're mature, you're used to it, and you don't need any help dealing with it!

okay, I have one very important question. I'm going camping, with my class on Monday, and lucky for me, it's my time of the month Frown. It's nothing to be afraid of! Especially since your teacher is also a girl, she'll totally understand - she has her period too, after all. She probably won't even mention it even if she does hear the wrapper, but if she does it is not to embarrass you - if she DOES ask, she'll be asking in case you need help/have questions, etc. She wants to help ya and make sure you feel comfortable no matter what, so don't panic. She's someone you can totally trust with this kinda stuff! Smile

Hey girlie,

If your bra is on the loosest hook, the straps are totally loose, and you feel discomfort because your boobs are sagging/busting out of the bra, you should probably try a new size. Your current bra might have just gotten worn out though, so make sure you try the same size too just in case! And to tell your mom, take a deep breath and catch her at a time when she is relaxing and not stressed out. Explain how your bra feels and tell her you don't want to go crazy buying bras, but you need a new one because your current one is making you feel sore/uncomfortable. Be mature about it and she'll understand! Smile

Oh, that's tricky if your bags are across the room.  Not changing it should be fine on days when you have a light flow.  Otherwise, maybe you could tuck a small tampon in your pencil case and slip it under your shirt until you get to the bathroom?

Im thinking of going to the gyno soon and was concerned because I shave the whole area down there, but I was reading that its very normal to be completely shaven down there, even when going to the gyno.

Are you sure you went to the bathroom?  It's more likely that it would be discharge than pee.  If it is though, it's just that you have a weak bladder. Jordan S.

I finally got the hang of tampons, but only the plastic ones... there are only cardboard ones left at my house, and i don't have any lubricate, the only reason i can get the plastic ones in is bcuz they slide in there without much effort, the ones with the cardboard applicators though, don't slide in, and i need to change my tampon soon, so do u have any tips for sliding in tampon with a cardboard applicator? (other that using the luricate you get in stores, bcuz i dont have any)




I don't personally have much trouble with either but I would imagine that you could use water to help moisten the area to help the applicator slide in more easily.

Usually, one pang of pain isn't a sign that your period will be starting. It typically lasts a little longer, feels achy, and could even make your back, legs, and rest of your bod sore. It could also be gas pains, a sign that you have to use the bathroom, or any number of other pains. I wish we could tell ya for sure that it is a period pain, but it's hard to tell since we can't feel them for ya Smile

You can find other underwear with less bad pantylines that aren't thongs, and if you're still having an issue, maybe try going up a pants size! But if you want mom's advice on thongs, explain the situation to her and stay calm no matter her reaction. Good luck!

okay.. my mom scheduled an appointment for me at the gynecologist, but she scheduled it for tomorrow... i will still have my period! I thought they would but something up *there* but what if im wearing a tampon or a pad. And i thought they ell u to be fully naked, no underwear..
so, if they do tell me to be naked, where do i put the pad? (by the way.. the appointment is because my period is really heavy, and because my PMS symptoms are really bad.) So to sum it up... which(pad or tampon) should i use and do they put something in your vagina? Does it hurt?




Hey girly! Generally for your first appointment they do not do a real evaluation, especially if you are on your period. They just ask you questions and see if there is anything too abnormal going on. If they think that you may need an evaluation then they will have you come back at another time, when you wont have your period.

yay, my period is not that heavy anymore! On the other side... i keep getting these killer cramps in my lower stomach! I's so bbad.. i dont think i can walk for that long. I'm on my bed right now, and for some reason lying on my stomach relives the pain! but.. i dont think i can lie on my stomach for that long.Anyways... thank you so much for the help! M mom came home early! Smile she came at about 2 o'clock Also, is this normal that my stomach and head hurt I thought pms was supposed to last only till you start your period!!

It's totally normal! Don't sweat it. Our periods are natural but they also take a toll on our bodies, so they can make us feel tired, achy, irritable, etc. all throughout - not just in the beginning! To help ease these symptoms, I always like to get LOTS of rest during my period. Popping an Advil can help with the pain, while a heat pad/hot water bottle/microwave "bed buddy" on your stomach/back can loosen up your muscles and soothe cramps Smile Hang in there, babe!

It's fine! I don't mind!

The best ways to get the hairs in the back is to lift your leg on a countertop or shower ledge, that way you can get a better view of what you're near.

Lotion works!  There are also some bikini-line specific brands that you can find at your drugstore too to prevent ingrown hairs. Jordan S.

It may itch from the hair growing back in, but if it does you can calm it down with some hydrocortisone cream or aloe.

It's perfectly fine to shave that often!  Just make sure you moisturize afterward so that you can avoid any irritation.

When shaving for your first time there, I would trim it down a bit so that it's more likely for the razor to really get the majority of the hairs.  Just be careful with the scissors!

MOD MOD Mod!!!! So I shave my vagina, almost all of it but I don't go in between my thighs and I stop right above the lips or labia of my vagina. But I want to shave everything because I'm tired of being almost hairless and then having some hairs stuck out atough I do trim but it doesn't get it all. What are some good tips to make sure to get all hair only vagina gone and like behind my vagina towards my butt gone with out cutting myself?!?!?!? Hey babe,

When shaving down there, it's really just a practice makes perfect situation.  You should avoid shaving in two different directions, and it's best to directionally go with the hair.  If you go in multiple directions, you're likely to get ingrown hairs since the area is particularly prone to them.

Try sitting on the edge of the bathtub,  so you can avoid blindly shaving and possibly nicking yourself.  Soon enough you'll get the hang of it and you won't need to.

Hey girly girl! It's totally OK, as long as you're very, very careful. You don't want to knick yourself... that hurts! As far as a razor goes, I'd say a disposable one is fine, as long as you use shaving cream or lotion. Otherwise, it may hurt.

heeey me again my friend slept over my house yesterday and she had white knickers on. she has dark hair (on head) and i seen her hair down there though her knickers when she was getting changed into her pjs we both slept in my bed then when i woke up she was still asleep! and when she woke up we went to get up and she said i think i started my period i was like go have a look then. she said im to scared i was like stand up and have a look i will turn away and she did, she started her period ! and leaked tough on my bed i just gave her a pad she got into clean clothes and every 10-20 mins she was cheacking her pad because she tought it was full !xx Ana D.

Hey DivaD01, you can start shaving down there. You could try Nair bikini cream, which is a lotion you apply and leave on for 10 minutes or less and wipe with a warm cloth or off in the shower. Or you could get bikini shaving cream and use a razor to get the hairs off. Hope this helps! Xoxo

So my hair "down there" always pokes out of the side of my underwear. It's embarrasing, and really annoys me. I don't want to shave it off because I know that it will irritate my skin, but would it do any harm to kind of..trim it, so it's shorter, and wont poke out? And is this normal for a girl to do?

This is totally normal! Even if your period has been completely regular until now, it's still normal for it to be irregular sometimes. It can be affected by changes in diet, sleep, stress, etc. Don't worry! Just keep on going with your routine and it'll come. Even if it's a few weeks late, don't panic! <3

The GOOD and BAD about SHAVING!

Your friends should not do that, obviously they shave everything and a lot of us do that but that doesnt mean you have to. Its fine to shave it all to or leave some of it, if you do shave it all or some, our vulvas and what we have down there becomes more visible and easier to see.

So I think if you keep it neat just tell them you shave some of it because a lot of girls our age leave some to. Shaving has its advantages but it is also a pain, and shaving it all takes a lot of time to keep things smooth and plus you have to moisturize. I have even heard guys talking about girls who dont shave and it makes me think they are saying that and they probably dont even shave themselves down there. So just do what you want with it.

Our boobs can feel tender before our periods because of our hormones, they can hurt as they grow, it can be sore from working out, or it can be another reason entirely. Make sure you don't feel any small hard lumps. If you don't, try taking an Advil to see if that helps alleviate the pain. If it continues for a while, don't be afraid to call your doc! It's probably nothing, but it's good to check with a professional just in case.
