Friend's jealous of my good grades

I’ve been best friends with this girl practically forever. We were never in the same classes but, this year, we are in almost every class together. It’s great, except she gets really jealous whenever I get a good grade.

Dear Down With a Friend,

It’s tough having a jealous friend but, believe it or not, it’s also tough for her being the jealous one. Be sure you’re not boasting about your grades. If you are humble and she still holds your A’s against you, speak up. Say, “I wish you wouldn’t be mad about my grades. I could act jealous of your great singing voice or how well you shoot baskets, but I’m happy for you. Let’s support each other, OK?”

Friendships often go through growing pains but, since you two are so tight, it’s worth working through this.

MOD MOD MOD!!!!
I'm afraid of guns. Like, really afraid. I can't even watch them in movies. I get freaked out when I see them. Whenever my friends invite me to watch a movie with them which has guns in it, I get really nervous and scared. I'm trying to get rid of this fear because I think I'm too old for this kind of fear of guns. Any advice?

Hey girlie,

It's totally normal to have fears like this! Being afraid of guns isn't some silly fear - guns can be really dangerous and can injure/kill, so it's natural for them to make you nervous. Some things to make you feel better could be the practical uses of guns (protection, hunting food), researching how they work (so you can see them from a technical point of view), or talking to people who go to shooting ranges about their experiences. But otherwise, you don't really need to feel obligated to get rid of the fear - it makes sense! We all have fears of things, so just try to avoid them in movies/TV/etc. and you should grow out of it as you get older Smile

MOD! I used to take dance years and years ago, and lately for the past year or so I've been wanting to dance again just as a hobby. I play volleyball and it's only one season, so why not take something I can do year-round and stay fit? The only problem is asking my mom. I told her last year and after we talked about it she never brought it up again. I think she thinks I'll take one class and want to quit. Also I'm just not really sure how to bring it up and follow up with it, because every time she doesn't like an idea, she kind of forgets about it and doesn't talk about it, ever. So what should I do here?

Hey girly, you need to constantly remind her about the dance classes. If you're always talking about them, eventually she'll find some for you to take. The more you talk about dance, the more interested you'll seem about dancing. Maybe even look up some dance classes in your area and show her what you find. Hope this helps!! Smile Smile
