Salute the sun, yoga style

If you've ever watched somebody do a sun salutation, it's pretty intimidating to say the least.  Yet, if they know the drill, seeing them fly from pose to pose is enough to make you want to give it a shot.

A sun salutation is a 12-pose sequence that stands to be one of the most universally well-known of the yoga motions. It's meant to get your blood flowing and your body comfortably loose before embarking on the more strenuous portions of the yogi workout.  What a perf way to greet the sun and say hello to your morning with a burst of energy!

Wanna' try it out?  Here's GL's sun-sal how-to:

Relax
1. Stand up straight and bring your hands to your "heart's center" (aka zen-like in the center of your chest). Your palms should be touching as in a prayer position.
2. Separate your hands and lift your arms straight above your head, reach, and lengthen your body toward the sky.
3. Fold your body in half, bringing your hands to your toes, hanging loosely like a rag doll, stretching your hamstrings. Then, fold up just until you reach a flat-back position, where your back is parallel to the floor. Fold all the way down again.
4. Slide into a left-legged lunge (your left foot is in front, right is in back).
5. Move your left leg back to meet the right so you're in a push-up or plank position.
6. Keeping your elbows hugging your ribs, bend down and lower your body until your elbows reach a 90-degree angle to the floor.
7. Glide into upward facing dog (legs flat on the floor with your upper body looking up, arms straight).
8. Adjust back to downward facing dog (straight legs, straight arms, hips in the air pointing to the sky).
9. Slide into a right-legged lunge.
10. Pull your left leg forward to meet the right and fold your body in half again. Pull up to flat back.
11. Raise your torso to a standing position and bend slightly back, arms reaching out behind you.
12. Return to standing position, hands at heart center.
Repeat, starting with the opposite leg.

I need help! My homecoming is about a week away, and I'm wearing a short, tight-fitted dress with one, small strap. I feel like I'm not in great shape, though. I'm petiete, but my arms and legs aren't very toned. Also, my thighs are big & I have cellulite! Do you know of any great workouts that will help me tone up (ESPECIALLY MY THIGHS!)? Hey girl, first of all, you are NOT overweight according to your BMI. Keep in mind your bod is growing, and it's so important you take care of it now: eat healthy and exercise. I know it's easy to get caught up and be self-critical, but trust me when I say you can be your own worst critic. Instead, just focus on taking care of yourself physically and mentally right now: realize you're beautiful just the way you are!

i have a new exercise routine so i can lose weight but my bod has been hurting SO much! i keep up with my routine hoping to get my legs and stuff used to it but it hasnt gotton much better, should i keep my exercise up?




Hey girl, I might cut back a little bit or be sure you give your bod adequate time to rest. Sometimes you have to work up to a routine frequency. Your bod has to get used to it. Slowly work up to x number per week.

im doing research on milk and the dangers of it. i've read that it causes disease, bone problems, and is custom made for calves. Is milk actually a good choice drink?




Hey girl,

I've never heard of milk CAUSING bone problems.....it gives us necessary calcium so we AVOID bone problems like osteoporosis. Also remember that pure cow's milk might have some undesirable bacterias/ingredients, but all milk is pasteurized before we drink it. That means it goes through a preservation process that is designed to get rid of all pathogenic microbes....which, in normal words haha, means it's then very unlikely milk will cause disease. I've read people trying to blame diabetes, high cholesterol, and other major health problems in America on milk. Sure, and the McDonalds/fatty fried foods/doughnuts/lack of exercise plays no role? Ha. Trust me, girl - milk in moderation is extremely important for the health of your body and bones!

I have a bad habit of not biting but actually ripping off the tips of my nails when they start getting to long. For some reason it annoys me to have long nails. Well now i want to stop doing that but my nails are really ragged looking (because it wasn't a clean break like it would if i used clippers) is there any thing i can do to get my nails to grow quick or do i have to wait? im just wondering because my nails take forever to grow.




I've been there, girl! I always pick at my nails when I'm bored/nervous, but it always leaves them dirty, ragged, and sometimes even hurting/bleeding. Yuckkkk. Unfortunately there isn't much you can do to make them grow faster right now - but when they do grow back, you have to remember what they looked like/felt like now! Hopefully that will help you stop picking at them. Instead, carry little portable nail clippers and a nail file with you in your purse. That way, if you feel a rough edge, you can clip it off without ripping it - no matter where you are!

MOD MOD MOD!!!! for some reason my lips have been extremely chapped for the last few days...i have been putting on alot of chap stick and its not helping at all. idk how it happened because i keep them moisturized everyday. what do i do??

 

Hey chica, maybe it's the chapstick you're using. Try Burt's Bees or Vaseline. Try wetting your lips with hot/warm water, let them dry and then apply the chapstick. Hope this helps!! Smile Smile

Hey girl, you need to first figure out what is making your back hurt. Is it sports? A new exercise routine? Your backpack? Once you've gotten that figured out, you can reduce whatever you're doing and it will get feel better. Smile Smile

mod mod mod mod mod mod My hair is really frizzy, like really frizzy! and i also have a ton of fly aways. Well then i dyed my hair and it made it worse. I can't even leave my hair down anymore because it looks so terrible. I could brush it for an hour and it would still look like i just rolled out of bed. Iv tried sleek and shine hair products but it just makes my hair incredibly greasy/oily. I tried a couple times to blow dry it out straight and that didn't work. And conditioner doesn't work. Any tips? iv asked my salon but they use stuff that cost to much.

 

Hey missy, umm I'm not eactly sure what else you could do. I would try using other straightening shampoos from different brands like Aussie and Head&Shoulders. Smile Smile

I used to think that my friends were the best friends in the world. They stood up for me, shared with me, and helped me in tough situations. Now that we are in middle school, they are in the same class without me. They do everything together. One of them is a follower, let’s call her Z. She treats me good when we are alone or texting or on the phone. But when my other friend is around(Y), she just does whatever Y does, even if it includes ditching me. She always takes Y’s side in arguments. I try talking to her about it, but she gets very defensive. I also tried talking to Y but she just doesn’t listen. When I told her how I was feeling, she said sorry and after that I thought it would all be okay. I was wrong because she keeps doing this to me. I don’t have a best friend anymore and I question if I even have friends. Please help, I’m just so stressed out!!
