Knock out those period blues before they get to you


 
We all know the feeling, chicas.  That nagging pile of unfortunate alerts that let you know your monthly visit is on it's way.  Lucky for you, we've got the inside deets on how to beat those pesky symptoms before they even hit ya!

Beat the bloat
Stray away from your salty favorites for a little while.  Why?  Your bod is going to puff just a bit either way, so don't make it worse by packing in some extra batches of sodium.

More moo juice, please
They say calcium can toss a serious hit to those cramps, and babes, dairy is your best bet to do so. Aim for a couple hundred milligrams of calcium twice a day to cut down cramps by almost half!

Say Ohm
It's pretty self-explanatory when you think about it.  Your flow comes along with some pretty messy bouts of mood swings.  What better way to calm your triggers than indulging in some yoga time.

Tub time
Chances are it's probably been a long while since you've taken a nice long bubble bath.  Take this opportunity to slip on in.  The warm water will help keep everything moving along inside to ease your pain.

I am wondering when you think i will get my period. not to be rude but please do not say like 'only time will tell' thanks.

-i am 13

-i am in 8th grade

-practically all of my friends have theirs

-i am 5ft 5in

-i am 100lbs


-i am bloating

-i have pubic (1.5yrs) underarm (6mo) and leg hair

-i am size 36A and have had boobs for 4yrs

-had heavy discharge for 2 yrs

-had on and off everyday lower stomach pains for 4mo

-had headaches

-sometimes feel nauseous

- my mom got hers when she was 11

-i am active

-i sometimes feel light headed and dizzy

Ohkay. So I came out with this brownish stain on my underwear. It's weird cause it came out like in my discharge. It happened with the last two days already. My friend said the exact same thing happened to her and den it stopped. And then a couple of months later, she started her period. I'm 12 and I had discharge for the past 2 years already and been having cramps. Is this my period or is this just a sign or something? Thank you! (:







Hey chica! It sounds like this may be a sign that your period is on its way soon. I'd keep a maxi pad in your backpack or purse, just in case it starts and you're at school. In the mean time, if you're still spotting, you can always wear a pantyliner to protect your undies!

I'm really new to this website and I tried to post a comment before but I don't see it. So I'm going to try again.So. I am a girl that is 12 years old and hadn't had her first period yet.Out of all my friends,I'm the only one who hadn't had hers yet.I feel really left out and scared that one day I won't be able to become a mommy.Is it true that EVERY girl must have their period.? How come some girls can't become a mom.? I never really tried to ask these questions to a doctor because I feel uncomfortable. I've been having discharge for about two years now,and sometimes it comes out in chunky or ball form. Is that normal? My vagina isn't fully opened or fully closed.There's like this little hole where the discharge comes out.Is THAT normal? Sometimes it itches or burns down there, but if I wash it,it goes away. I've had some cramps before and a GREAT AMOUNT OF MOOD SWINGS,but my period never comes. PLEASEE! I need advice,! Thank you.!




Hey girl,

Every girl will have her period, yes. But your first period could come anywhere between 10-15 years of age. You're only 12 - you still have PLENTY of years to get your period before it becomes a problem. If you don't get it by 16 years old, it's probably time to talk to your doc. But you have so many years before then! There are tons of medical reasons why some women can't have kids (like hormone imbalances, they don't release eggs every month, they had to have their pregnancy organs removed due to cancer or another illness, etc.), but the fact that you don't have your period by 12 does NOT mean you have any of them. Your discharge and the shape of your "down there" also sound totally normal! Try not to stress about this and, if you have any further questions, ask your doctor. They are professionals and you can trust them with all your period/bod concerns. <333
