I'm having a holiday party in two weeks. I haven't really set a specific dress code or anything but I was wondering what you think I should wear? Also, how should I do my hair and makeup?
So far there are 14 girls coming, were all about 15-16 years old, I am not sure what they are planning on wearing. I don't want to be to formal and totally overdress but I don't want to be to casual either. I was thinking of wearing a black skirt, but do you think I should wear tights or nylons under it? Its pretty cold were I live and there is tons of snow so I don't want to get too cold, but would it look ok with the skirt?

Hey girlie,

The holidays are a great excuse to dress up, so I'd probably wear a cute cocktail dress in a holiday color/with lots of shimmer! Maybe this silver dress that we featured in our Style section? It's your party so, as the hostess, you can always look a little more dressy than everyone else Smile But if you think that's too much, try a mini skirt with a tee or tank tucked in. Same rules apply though- holiday colors, gem tones, and/or sparkle are a must! Smile Tights under it, whether it's a dress or skirt, are a great idea. As for hair and makeup, try a high pitched ponytail with a fun blue smokey eye, topped off by some plain lip gloss. Have fun!!!!

Hey thecatgirl: For slightly more expensive dresses, Nordstrom has some really cute numbers. For average prices, most stores in ur local mall will have cute ones but I know Delia's, Macy's, and JCPenney all have pretty dresses. If ur on a budget, I think if you're willing to look, Forever21 stores have great finds! I got this cute cap-sleeved, glittery black one at Forever21 for $23 for cotillion (it's a kinda semi-formal dance). I got so many complimnents! Hope I helpedSmile

I just bought a pair of new ballet flats, they are mostly tan, but the tips are black patent leather. They also have a bow on the toes. The problem is: I don't know what to wear them with! What types of outfits would these shoes match?

I have a winter dance next friday, and the dress is supposed to be casual & school appropriate, but I still want to look cute! Considering my idea of casual is a tshirt from 5th grade and jeans, what should I wear?




Hey chica,

Try to step up your normal idea of "casual." Go with a pair of jeans, but choose a dark wash and skinny cut. Trade in your flip flops (or sneakers) for a pair of comfy, sparkly/brightly colored flats. Upgrade that t-shirt by choosing a flowy, feminine trapeze top or a dressy tee with lace details. You want to be comfy, but you also want to feel special! Smile

Let some time pass for her to cool off. Then, when things are quiet, say calmly: "Mom, I just want to let you know that I really am sorry for getting so upset this morning. It wasn't right and you don't deserve that." Then walk away and let her process it. It's ok - we all say things like this in the heat of the moment. It's what you do AFTERWARDS to show her you're really sorry that counts <3
