Step away from the cookie dough!

 
Keeping your mitts away from the cookie dough has always been more of an advisory doled out by moms who wanna see their cookies eaten after they're baked rather than before. But scientists have discovered that scarfing down the good stuff before it’s cooked can lead to problems far bigger than mom catching you sneaking a finger-full.

 

Researchers who studied the 2009 E. coli outbreak linked to ready-to-bake cookie products found in stores across the country think they’ve found the illness-inducing culprit: unprocessed flour, reports the New York Times. While some companies, like Nestle, now use only processed flour in their products, others have yet to alter their ingredients. 

 

The scientists are wagging their fingers particularly at teenage girls, who, the studied showed, tend to buy these ready-made cookie dough products without actually intending to bake the cookies at all. If you’re one of the many following this delicious but so-not-OK trend, you might wanna back away from the batter. Save your health, sweeties, and opt for eating your cookies fresh outta the oven...preferably with a glass of milk (or, you know, hot chocolate) by your side.
