Good deed of the day: Donate healthy bites to a food drive

 
Food drives, soup kitchens, churches and other community groups receive tons of donations during the holidays, but a lot of the goods that are so generously offered are less than healthy. The next time you, your fam, your school or your friends wants to donate a can of soup or box of cereal to those in need, go above and beyond by checking the nutrition label.

 

Look for…

 

- Canned fruits that are not packed in heavy syrup

- Low-sodium soups and veggies

- Whole-grain pasta and brown rice

- Spices

- High-fiber cereals

- Peanut butter

- Canned tuna or chicken

- Ingredients you can pronounce. And the shorter the list, the better!
