Say so-long to present envy

Are you evergreen with envy when others get all the “good gifts”? Do all of your presents seem like nothin’ compared to what your friends got? Since every family has its own gift-giving system, it’s bound to happen. Here’s what to do when the green monster rears its ugly head.

Keep your gifts in perspective

You’re not a terrible person for wanting cool things. Anticipating gifts is fun, but thinking and talking about them non-stop is way over the top. Ask yourself this: If you were trapped in a room with a friend who was talking about gifts as much as you are, would you want to dive head-first out the window? Bad sign.

Remember: Things don’t make ya happy forever

Accept that things won’t always be “fair.” Your parents, like all parents, have their limits. It’s up to you to respect these limits—even if you don’t like them. No matter what your family’s resources, there will always be people who will get bigger, better and more plentiful gifts. So if you’re going to go around comparing yourself to everyone who has more, you’re bound for sheer misery. It’s best to come to terms with what you don’t have, and start relishing what you do have.

You already have the best gift of all

Appreciate all the terrific people and experiences you can. Spend time with your grandparents and listen to stories about holidays past. Enjoy malling with your best friends. Doing volunteer work will boost your spirits and remind you how truly blessed you are.

Are you jealous of your friends’ gifts? Spill, sweeties!
