Co-ed party dos and don'ts

Check these out, too...

  • Your best prom after party ever
  • Mastermind a hoppin' Easter egg hunt
  • Classic '90s teen movie marathon sleepover
  • Dig in to a potluck picnic in the park
  • The easiest way to give back? A philanthroparty!
Throwing your first boy-girl bash? Don’t fret! With our 10 party rules to live by, you’ll be the hostess with the mostess! Rock on, girl friend…

DO initiate an icebreaker game that’ll get everyone interacting. A goofy round of Never Have I Ever or Who Am I? might be just what you need to get guys and girls to have a blast together.

DON’T stick to your crew like glue. As the hostess, it’s your job to work the party and make every guest feel comfortable, whether it’s your crush’s best friend or your lab partner.

DO introduce people with common interests, like your punk rock-loving BGF Joe and the new girl in your neighborhood who’s always jamming in her garage. But…

DON’T force people to mingle. Just ‘cause you think they’d be perfect together doesn’t mean they’ll get along like PB&J. Let things happen naturally.

DO pick a theme.

DON’T go super girly. The chances of guys appreciating your pink and purple streamers or Selena Gomez playlist are pretty slim, so take their presence and interests into consideration.

DO have a plan, including your pre-party activities, possible ice breaker games and when you’re food will be ready to hit the tables, but…

DON’T be afraid to change it. If your guests are having a blast on the dance floor, don’t turn off the music and bring out dessert in the middle of a dance-off just ‘cause your schedule told ya too.

DO lead the group in activities. For Valentine’s Day, we love a li’l spin the bottle or truth or dare.

DON’T make your guests take part if they really don’t want to. If your quiet BFF would rather make party hats at the craft station, why limit her fun? That’s the point of your party—having fun with your guests. You don’t all have to be doing the same thing at the same time to make your party a success.

What co-ed party rule are you always sure to follow, sweeties?

MOD MOD MOD MOD
My birthday is coming up soon and I can either have a party with <15 people or take one friend to the beach. I really want to have a party but the problem is, I have alot of different "friend groups". I have my science olympiad friends: 2 of my best guy friends in the world, my popular friends, and my sorta-punk/goth friends. My mom likes them all and she doesnt care who I invite but I don't want the science guys to just sit there the whole time because the popular ones dont accept them or something like that. I really don't know what to do so please help Smile

Hey girlie,

I can't see why they wouldn't get along alright.  Especially as long as you invited more than one person from each group.

MOD!! I'm having 9 people over for a movie night-guys and girls-and I'm not sure what movies to rent and watch! We do have neflix and can always go to a redbox or blockbuster or whatever, but I need some good comedies or even romantic movies, as long as the guys won't get bored. Please help! and thank you Smile(pg-13 highest rating, so no R's please!)

Hey girl! Sounds like it will be a fun night! I would check out some of the new releases on your Netflix que and get a couple of options! Footloose, Jack and Jill, and Puss in Boots have recently come to DVD (I actually loved Puss in Boots and thought it was hilarious for an animated film!), so they all could be good options. The Benchwarmers, Rush Hour, or a movie with Will Ferrell might be a good one to watch with the guys (just ask your parents first to make sure they approve!). Hope you have a blast!

***MOD***
So in the summer I was thinking of having a Co-ed campout at a provincial ar down the road. What do you recomend I do?
Thx, SuperSavvy

Hey girly! Classic games like charades or capture the flag are always fun and everyone can play. And for night time, don't forget the always popular spin the bottle, and nothing is more romantic than a kiss around the campfire

Hey girl,

When mods are busy, it can take a little longer than normal to answer your questions! I don't see any comments with your username waiting, though, so if you'd like to resend I'll answer asap!
