Dear Age 13,

You’re not the only 13-year-old who still cuddles up with a stuffed bear. Sleeping with an animal for comfort is not like sucking your thumb or dragging a blankie around. Give yourself a break! Soon enough, you’ll probably change your ways without even trying. If you still want to break the habit, put your animal on a shelf or at the end of your bed instead of right next to you. Grab a pillow if you need something to hold.

When I was in 7th grade (just finished 8th grade and going into high school when school starts) I slept with a teddy bear and cut myself, I stopped cutting myself when I started seeing the social worker at my school she really helped me. At sometimes I'm thinking about cutting but don't because the counselor told me whenever I get the thought think positive or do something I love.
But I took my teddy bear to my friends sleepover just to sneak it in and I was caught it was so EMBARRASSING so I stopped but now I miss sleeping with it. Lynae P.

Sometimes I feel like I'm too old but then I remind myself that it's ok.

I think it's not so much a bad thing to have a stuffed animal!! Whenever my friends and me spend the night at eachother's houses, it's like we don't even care whether or not we have stuffed animals or not! If you're embarrased, I always say to myself.. hi mod, so this doesn't really have anything to do with the article but i really need some advice! Okay so i have 5 best friends, we go to school together, were a group, but all of my fiends have a different best friend outside of our group and they hang out with them a lot too, and sometimes i don't really want to hang out with the group cuz i wanna be with other people, how are some ways i can make a new bff outside of school?

 

You just need to get involved with things you like. I made tons of friends by doing dance. So maybe try to find a hobby and youll meet people that way. xoxo kerra

You don't have to break apart from your favorite stuffie its perfectly alright to still sleep with one, I still sleep with one and so does my 15 year old sister. Its better to have a favorite stuffed animal to have when your down to help raise your spirits.

My friends church's youth group is going up to the mountains for a weekend winter camp - Friday to Sunday only 2 nights, 1 day - the only thing is, is that I get homesick really easy. A bunch of my frineds are going, and I know it will be fun, but I tend to think of the worst
(i.e. what if theres an earthquake, what if my family gets in a car crash...) I know these things are most likely not gonna happen but there is always a possibility( Last time I went away with Girl Scouts for 1 night I can home to find my sister with 2 broken arms, she fell off a swing knocked herself out and nearly broke her neck but luckiy broke the fall with her arms.... So that kinda haunts me.) When I was younger I was perfectly fine with sleep overs but within the last couple of years I havent had to many because Im nervous that I will freak out, but when I do have them I have a blast..... Any advice on what to do? Sorry this is long...........




The only way you are going to have any fun in life is if you stop stressing about things that are out of your own control. Just keep telling youself that everything will be fine on the trip. Once you go on the trip and realize everything was fine, something in your brain should click, letting you know that being away from home is completely OK. Like everything, practice makes perfect. The more you are away from home, the more comfirtable you will become with it.

My life has really suucked lately. I was btrayed by a best friend and she started telling all my other friends lies about me. It worked somehow for me to becaome a loner. All except my one best friend who was betrayed by her beforeexcept I've never done anything to her. So I started to hang out with her more and more. I got the lead in my play and one of my other best friend who auditioned and got a chorus part was ticked and started haraasing us over text and facebook message. My Best friend became depressed over this and the betrayal of Shelby(My ex-bestie). Her mm took her out of school and she takes online classes now. So Im kind of a loner now. I'm not socially awkward and I like to talk to people who want to hear me. I've been hanging out with aquatainces and have trouble talking heart to heart with them because they dont know me as well. I dont think anyone else will. How can I make my self more assure and confident?

 

Hey girl, I'm so sorry! But don't you worry, you will get through it. Best thing to do is get involved with different clubs or even a sport. That way you're surrounded by new people and can make new friends. Maybe even join an organization outside of school? -- Make sure you realized that none of this is your fault. There are always people who will enter other's lives to just be mean. But YOU are so much better than them. You have a great life a head of you. Make sure you carry those positive thoughts with you no matter what happens!

But I always feel like wanting to be young again when gossip, rumors, middle school, and popularity never mattered. It feels like I had the best memories when I was younger and I always was happy and had fun. Now it seems like my world revolves around looking good, Facebook, and Guys. I wish it wasn't like this. You're not alone - it's totally normal to think about the past and wish you could go back. But honestly, things weren't as good then as you remember. It just seems easier because of what you're facing now. But you're forgetting that you didn't have as much freedom, weren't able to enjoy as many movies and as much music as you do now, you weren't as smart or considerate, your parents didn't trust you as much, etc. And the truth is, this isn't Peter Pan - you HAVE to grow up. The trick is making the most of it. Sure, parts aren't going to be fun - having periods, being stressed by school, etc. But you gotta find the parts that you love! Ok, so you don't care about looking good for guys and you'd rather be more laid back about that kind of thing. So...be that way! This is YOUR life and it's your decision how you live it. You can still play games, read fairytales and fantasy books, play sports with friends, and enjoy life as a 12 year old. It's inevitable that we'll grow older, but it doesn't mean we have to grow up. This isn't something to be depressed about - it's something to embrace. And if you don't like certain parts, CHANGE THEM. This is totally up to you!!! <3

It's fine holding on to a stuffed animal or toy as you get older. i'm 14 and i bet i'll still have my stuffed bunny i got in easter 2006 when i'm 90! If something is cute, cuddly, soft and gives you comfort then i dont see why so many people are embarrassed by it!!

I got her for Christmas when I was nine, (yep, I'm 20) My bear comes with me on trips and back an forth to college. I love her so much. She knows all my secrets. It's like a verbal diary.
My high school Chruch youth group loved her. (I would bring her along on mission trips). I am going to Venezeula by myself for a semester abroad this fall and you better believe my bear Joya will be on my lap on the plane and in bed with me every night.

(Continued due to limits)And articles like the one in the Jan/Feb '12 issue about girl crushes shoudl give more than just pro-gay groups as resources. Not everyone agrees it's an okay thing, and those who believe it's a sin shouldn't be marginalized. If nothing else, girls should be given resources for groups on both sides of the fence, not just one view. (and if someone decides not to go with the lifestyle, it's not a terrible thing. There are a lot of ex-gays out there.)

Involve her in all those aspects of your life. Talk to her about your crushes and ask for advice on guys. Get her to help you choose what highschool you go to and introduce her to your teachers. I had a crush on this guy in sixth grade, but I never had the courage or gusto to ever go up and talk to him. Anyway, when sixth grade ended, my parents announced that we were going to move to a new school when I was in seventh grade! I was taken by surprise and a little happy, but my crush would be left behind!
So, we switched schools and so on , and unlike my previous school, a lot of guys asked me out. But as crushes and ask outs went by, I realized I STILL liked the boy from my first school. So I friended him on Facebook, and since November, we've been chatting. There have been occasional gaps, but he's super funny and into acting.
My question is, is there a way to move it from chat buddies and forward? I think I might ask him for his number, but still, I don't know how it could ever work out. I've been warned of he effects of relationships online and since we dont go to school together, HELP! Frown

If you don't live too far away from each other and your parents would be okay with transporting you, a relationship with the boy from your first school might still work. But why not give some of the new guys a chance, and hang out with them and get to know them? They might be really cute and sweet, too!

Ok, so I know im going to get a lot of hate for this one... but I need help. So I have liked this guy for like a year and a half and hes totally out of my league, but he asked me out yesterday. of course i said yes. But... I have also been talking to this other guy ever since his girlfriend dumped him and i admit ive kind of been leading him on.. i know its bad- ive already been lectured all day. Anyways so this guy I lead on found out (even though I already made a date with the guy i liked and i had full intentions on telling the guy i lead on about him but i got my phone taken away), and he forwarded messages to everyone. So now my friends hate me and my parents have taken away my phone, facebook,twitter like they deactivated it and everything. But im scared that the guy i like wont go out with me. I have liked him for sooooooo long that like, its just not fair... I just like am so scared to go to school too since everybody knows that im considering running away..or suicide

You know that this isn't worth killing yourself. Like they say, suicide is a permanent solution to a temporary problem. Yes, this seems bad right now because it's new and it hurts. But it WILL get better. People will forget and replace this "scandal" with something new very soon. In the meantime, you need to fix the things that you broke. First off, apologize to mom and dad. Admit that you were irresponsible and said things you shouldn't have said - say you're sorry and try to move on, proving to them that you can be trusted to act responsible and smart. Next, apologize to your friends and say whatever you need to say to admit you were wrong. Then, to the guy you are going to date... be totally honest about everything. Tell him you made a mistake but that doesn't change anything between the two of you. You'd still love to get to know him better and you hope he still feels the same. Be humble, apologize, and try your hardest to get things back to "normal" <3 You can do this!

Okay, so idk what's wrong, but if I don't listen to music for more than a day, I'll get withdrawal symptoms. I'm really snappy and irritable, and I'll shiver a TON. I can usually put up with my... "special" family, but not when I haven't listened to my music. When I listen to music though, it all goes away. I don't think it's healthy. What should I do?
P.S. My mom won't buy me a CD player or an mp3, so I can only listen online, and I don't get the computer very often, due to the abundance of siblings (7).

You can talk to your school conciller if you really think you have a problem and they can help you out with that. If you really need to listen to music you could save up money and buy your own MP3 player. There are very inexpensive MP3 players out there.

so on saturday my friend wnated me to do a shoulder sit with her. So I'm up on her shoulders but I lost my balance and fell forward, landing on my wrist to stop myself. it went numb and felt really heavy so I couldn't use it. the next day I woke up and it still hurt. Now (1 day later) it still feels tight and if I try to move it too much or lift anything heavy it hurts a lot. My parent's won't take me to the hospital because they think I'm fine. I'm really scared though, what do I do?

 

Hey girl! Ouch! Sorry to hear about your wrist. I would first try putting a cold compress on it (like a bag of ice), then if it still hurts, I would talk to your parents and tell them that you are in pain. They could first take you to your doctor if they don't want to take you to the hospital. I'm not a doctor, so I can't offer much advice, but talk it through with your parents or nurse at school.

i sleep with "Blankie and Puppy" which i had since i got home from the hospital when i was born and im totally ok with it and my friends are totally fine with it!

@yorkielover88 i have to sleep with my fan on even in the winter so try to have something that makes you feel safe and secure when you are trying to sleep other than people. just experiment sometimes! hope that helped!!

who ever wrote this question i felt the same way last year. But gradually break the habbit by just not bringing it to sleep overs then not on vacation. But seriously if you really still want them theres no shame in sleeping with them in your own home.

this really embarrassing but I always have to have someone in my bed or room to get me to sleep and if I'm at my house with only my parents it can only be my mom cuz my dad... well that's just weird...... but I use a sleeping mask which doesnt work. when I'm with friends I'm fine bc there's other ppl in the room. I really hate this and none of my friends know about it. plz help me!! I need to get this rid of. btw I'm 12 my birthday is in June. (plz dont give me links). <3

 

Hmm this is an interesting situation. The only way to fix this on your own is to just work on it. Keep trying to sleep while youre alone. Maybe try a face mask with calming music. Maybe listen to a book on tape so theres a voice in the room that makes you not feel so alone. Maybe try keeping your door open for comfort. Try anything you can. xoxo kerra

i'm thirteen and love stuffed animals and i honestly don't care if other people make fun of me for it which most don't because if you just act like you don't care what people think they leave you alone and if someone has a problem with it then they are not invited to your sleepovers anymore. Frown sucks for them, huh?

my bff just turned 13 yesterday and i know she still sleeps with her stuffed animal cat. i dont sleep with a stuffed animal though. i have this pink blanket that i got for christmas though and i take it everywhere i go around the house. its just so freakin soft!! i love my blanket!

I stopped sleeping with a stuffed animal at 13....I am now 15 and decided I miss my buddies. I sleep with a sock monkey at my moms house and a 3 ft stuffed bear named Louis B. Watson (I didn't name him) =P at my dad's. Honestly, I love it, it makes me feel like I'm still a kid <3

i still sleep with a stuffed animal sometimes!! because when i have to get up int he middle of the night to go to the bathroom or something i get freaked out then i hurry into bed and cuddle with my stuffed animals surround me with pillows and a blanket. lol my friend morgan has TONS of stuffed animals and her room has a lot but of course her little brother who is 4 shares a room so they have a lot of stuffed animals.

I have had an awful two days. I actually made a HUGE mistake and told a friend about one of my best friends secrets. And she ended telling everyone. I feel awful because now my best friend hates me and doesn't ever want to talk to me again. I hope eventually she'll forgive me but she's known for holding grudges. She doesn't go to our school though because she moved over the summer. What can I do that'll help our relationship? Because at this point I'm hopeless.




Hey girlie,

You just have to give it some time so she cools off. Then, try to get her on the phone or send her a letter (yep, through the regular mail) to get out your feelings. Emphasize how sorry you are - and what exactly you're sorry for. You're sorry for breaking her trust, you're sorry for telling everyone when she told you in confidence, you're sorry it got spread everywhere, and you're sorry that you don't have her in your life anymore. Ask her if she could possibly forgive you if you promise you will NEVER, EVER do anything like this again. You can't force her to forgive you, so hope for the best and see how she reacts. If she doesn't want to forgive though, you'll have to move on - focus on your other friends, make new ones by joining a club or sport, and learning a lesson here so you keep their trust in the future <3

I do not think there is anything wrong with sleeping with stuffed friends. (I call them stuffed friends because they are also really good friends. They are never mean.) I am thirteen and still sleep with mine.
