Are you crushing? 10 ways to tell, and win!

Got a weird, fuzzy feeling in your stomach…but not sure what it is? It can hit ya any time of the day—on the walk to school, during French class, even when the pizza delivery guy rings your doorbell. It’s strange and new but you gotta admit—you kind of like it. Could it be…a crush?

You're not alone, chica. In The Boy on Cinnamon Street by Phoebe Stone, super gymnast Louise is determined to uncover the identity of her secret admirer—and finds herself crushing back for the very first time.

Luckily, Louise has BFFs Reni and Henderson by  her side to help diagnose her mixed-up emotions. Want some of their awesome advice? GL teamed up with The Boy on Cinnamon Street for the top 10 ways to tell you're crushin' hard...

  1. Those “butterflies” your sister told you about—the ones that fly around in your stomach? Yep, you finally get it.
  2. QUOTE ALERT! “Crushes hurt. None of them feel good. They’re pure agony.” (p. 25)
  3. You’re always late to homeroom on the days you have class together…because you have to change your outfit three times and apply false lashes for the occasion.
  4. QUOTE ALERT! “‘Yeah,’ goes Reni, ‘of course you can tell [if you’re crushing]. You’re, like, all pale and weird-looking.” (p. 56)
  5. You’re writing poetry. And you never write poetry.
  6. QUOTE ALERT! “He’s moaning and mooning around and staring out the window all the time.” (p. 113)
  7. Your favorite song on the radio always reminds you of him. And so does the one played after that. And after that. Actually…every song reminds you of him.
  8. QUOTE ALERT! “I lean my head against [him], and the warm fuzzy flannel of his shirt feels nice against my cheek. Suddenly a wave of something sweet pours over me.” (p. 136)
  9. You find yourself checking his Facebook page a few times a day…and start showing up at all his favorite check-in spots.
  10. QUOTE ALERT! “I feel like someone just hit me over the head with a hammer.” (p. 162)

My first crush was amazing at fist. Whenever he was around I felt like I was walking on air. He made me feel so special and happy, like I could never want anything else in the world. Then he started going out with one of my best friends it was heartbreaking. She knew exactly how I felt about him, and she didn't care. The worst part was that at my sleepover we were being goofy and I pretended a stuffed bear was him and I kissed it. I had no idea she was recording it, and would later post the video on her Facebook for the whole world to see. I was crushed. After a while, I forgave her and moved on. We are now super close, and the guy and I are great friends. So I guess it all worked out.

I just got my first crush in sixth grade and my heart stops still every time I hear a word even remotely similar to his name. We had the cutest meeting, we had just got our geography seats and Nico, the boy who sits next to me and was already friends with my crush stole my crushes pen. Nico replied to all my crush's pleading "If you guess her name you can have it back. He was pointing at me!" My crush spent the next five minutes guessing while we did attendance and were introduced to our teacher. I told him before the real part of class started and i noticed him staring at me the whole class. Ahh... adorable.

my first real crush was in the third grade. it was the guy who had been crushing on me since 1st grade but i hadnt really paid any attention to him. It was valentines day(in third grade) and i really needed a valentine, so my friends grabbed him and had him ask me to be his valentine. That's only half of it. but, to get to the point, this crush made me feelwarm and fun inside, but it also hurt really bad. he was always flirting with other girls and it was really annoying. Back then some one being your valentine meant you guys were goin out. so, when we broke up he pretty much backtraked the nxt day on to another girl. which made my crush hurt even more! Now i'm 13 and in the 7th grade and my crushes still feel the exact same way as they did then.

My first crush started in third grade. He was one of my best friends, and we talked all the time! I think he liked me then too, for a short time at least. I considered telling him how I felt at the end of fifth grade(we were going to different schools after that), but I chickened out and we parted ways. I honestly was hung up on my crush on him for at least two more years, even though I hadn't seen him in forever. Then, I found him on facebook a few months ago (near the end of eighth grade) and friended him, and he still seems like his old self, but I haven't gotten up the guts to talk to him again... <\3

My first crush was in the first grade with my BGF Noah. He was the kind of guy that stuck up for me! We would hang out all of the time. My friend would say that he liked me, but I really didn't. Ieve her. Plus she was wrong. But then he started to have feelings for me in the middle of fifth grade and now we go to different middle schools and I don't get to see him that much. It makes me sad because he was always the one to help me in any situation.
