Why massage rocks (plus 4 DIY tips!)

Ever wondered why a neck massage or back rub feels so fab? A recent study shows that massage reduces inflammation in muscles and tissues, which releases painful pressure within your body. As you rub your muscles, they release proteins that stimulate regeneration and healing.

So, the next time you pull a calf muscle, strain a quad or simply wanna make your slept-on-it-weird neck feel better, try giving your muscles a li’l hands-on TLC.

Wanna try it out? Here are our top-four tips for giving yourself a healing massage:

- Use the tips of your fingers or your thumbs for the reachable areas of your body

- Move in a continuous circular motion

- Press hard enough that you feel the pressure, but make sure you don’t feel any sharp pain!

- Always go around prominent bones (ones that stick out) and focus on the cushy areas around them

Keep your salads lightly dressed. Too much dressing on your fresh greens can hold more calories than you think and leave your salad soggy. Yuck.
