How to talk to the popular cutie



I liked this guy since last year, when he wasn't even close to being popular. We were friends but now that he's popular it's harder to talk to him! How do I deal?


Hey girly! Teenage years can be hard because social status’ change and people think that it should change how they act and who they hang out with. Try chatting him up online or find him when he is walking alone from school. By himself he doesn’t have his crew to dictate him and he can make him own decisions.


When people suddenly become popular they don’t know how to deal and think that it is okay to only talk to their new friends, and they forget about their old ones. Remind him how close you two were and build that friendship back up before you move beyond that. If he still seems to blow you off then maybe he has changed, and not for the better

Yeah I always end up liking popular guys and they flirt back, and then I find out two months later that they have a girlfriend and have had one for a month and a half. Here's to bad taste in guys!

Mod, Mod, Mod! So I really like this guy. I'm not sure if he likes me back, but for once, that isn't the problem (crazy, right? Haha Laughing). So what is the problem? This girl has a huge crush on him. She follows him EVERYWHERE and doesn't ever let him talk to other girls. He told me it freaks him out and then asked if I would go to the dance with him to ward her off (can anyone say "friend zone"?). Now she's super mad at me and won't let me anywhere near him at school. Even better, she's eating with us (and a group of friends) before the dance. Any advice for dealing with her? Thanks a million! Smile

Ugh, how annoying! But when you say "she doesn't let me anywhere near him," how exactly is she doing that? You should be able to be firm and tell her, "I'm allowed to speak to my friends. You need to get out of my way." Then, go for it! Don't let her run your life. If she's just constantly talking to him and not physically blocking you from him, go over and be bold - ask him if you can steal him away to hang out for a bit. Make eye contact with him and completely ignore her. It might drive her crazy, but he'll be thankful you gave him a break from her - and you'll get to talk to him. It's a win-win! As for dinner before the dance, he invited you "to ward her off"...so that basically gives you permission to be around him most of the night. Go get your food together, choose a spot where you can sit together (preferably on a small chair or with someone else already sitting on the other side of him - that way, she can't get in there) and chat the whole time, asking each other questions and having a good time. Try to push her out of your mind so you don't worry about her, but you might need to stand your ground at first so she knows it's your territory for the night. It might even be fun for you both to sneakily "plot" ways to get away from her. It'll be like a game, which is a totally flirty way to enjoy your time together!
