My brother is seven years older than me, and he doesn’t know I exist. I don’t expect to be best friends, but I want him to see I’m not just a little kid. What should I do?

 

Dear Big Brother Blues,

Talk to your brother. If you have a problem, ask for his opinion. He may be flattered by how much you value his input, and it will help him see you are growing up. Suggest that you walk to the dog or watch a DVD together. And don’t worry! As you get older, the age gap really will seem smaller and smaller.

Mod, I'm scared of my brother. He always hurts my physically and emotionally. I'm very insecure because he puts me down every day. He calls me gross and stupid and after a while it can do a lot to my self esteem. He also will hurt me for other reasons. One time I was on the computer but he wanted it so he threw me off. I was scared so I ran away and started crying and he kept taunting me by telling me to stop spazzing out, that I have anger management issues,asking me if I'm done yet. One time I acctually ran away and had to go for a walk around the neighbourhood to calm myself. When I came back he kept taunting me and hours later continues! I hate felling scared. I'm crying right now acctually.Can you please find some way to help me? Btw, he's 2 years older than me and a lot taller.

 

 

Hey girly, this is NOT ok. You need to tell someone about this. Have you talked to your rents? If not them, maybe a grandparent/aunt/uncle or even a teacher that you trust when school starts back up. It's not right for him to treat you this way, and please, whatever you do, do not believe the mean things he says to you!

i really wish i had a brother! my two cousins are brother and sister and they are really close and have fun together. everyone always says i'm so lucky to have a twin sis and a baby sis, but i think that they're the lucky ones!

so I just recently talked to my mom because she has a problem...she asked me what I want to be when I grow up and I answered back saying "an actress". she said so what is the point about being in a sorority that helps you with your future career?she doesn't like the fact that I want to be an actress when I grow up...she said I should get a job where they really pay me...being an actress gets you paid!...what is the point of parents if they are not supportive about your future goals???I need help

 

Hey chica!

A lot of times parents have different opinions about what field their kids should go in for some reason or the other. Acting is very competitive because so many people want to do it and there are only so many movies or plays that make enough money. That could be one reason she'd rather you go for something else. While it's good to focus on what you eventually want to do everyday, aim high and believe in yourself, there is an option of pursuing another career along with performing arts (such as PR, teaching, business and so on), so you could do two jobs until you make it big in acting. Smile

Dear Mod, I figured out that my best friend has a huge crush on my older brother but she doesn't know i know. Anyway I'm sort of awestricken and don't know how to react because i thought i would never see the day when she would have a crush on him. I'm just confused and need maybe a little of guidance. Hey girlie,

You're freaking out about this because the info feels so new. You just need some time to process it! It's really not a big deal, if you think about it. So, your bestie likes your bro. Does your bro like her back? Is the age difference huge? Is there really a chance they could date? And if they did date, would it really be such a bad thing? Probably not! Smile It's just strange to have our family world and our friend world collide like this... but it's not a BAD thing! Take a deep breath and remind yourself to take things one day at a time. If something new happens (like they start talking, or they start dating), deal with it as it comes. But there's no reason to hate your friend or ask her to stop crushing - if they make each other happy and you care about each of them (and want to see them happy), then it could actually be a really good thing. Plus you can always take credit for bringing them together ;)

okay so where I live it's really cold right now, I want to go on vacation we can and we've talked about it but my dad said now we have to go in August for his birthday. I'm really bummed out how can I convince him I've tried everything!!!

 

 I think it sounds like your dad has his mind made up already. I think this is just a issue you should leave alone.

Whoa, this is your BFF saying these things?! Holy moly. The next time she says something like this, get serious and tell her once and for all - "Can you knock it off? I'm dealing with this and I wish my best friend would support me, not make it worse. It hurts when you say those things." Be firm and honest. And after that, if she doesn't stop with the teasing, you need to distance yourself from her. It's sad because she's been your friend for a while, but you can't be around that negativity while you're trying to recover. You need people who love you and support you, not people who are trying to bring you down. Your health is the most important thing here, so do whatever it takes to surround yourself with love! <3

Me and my big bro are almost 10 years apart. When I was younger it seemed like a big deal but now I talk to him all the time and he's one person I know I can trust to always be there. And even though our lives may be at different stages we can talk to each other about problems and share a good laugh. -Alleigh

Okay, so my dad calls me and i answer the phone and he says, that my cousin who is turning 3 has a b-day party tomorrow so i said okay, after that he said that i have to go outside with some of my girl scout troop and sell cookies ( i already sold cookies for 5 hours total last time) and i have to do it since he already signed me up...but its the 1st day of spring break (i want to have FUN) , i dont want to sell anything i want to relax???? HELP??

 

Hey! since you're signed up there's really no way to get out of it. Just try to tough it out and have fun on the job, that way it'll fly by and you can get to the relaxation Smile

Okay, this is really weird. In the morning, my nipples are the same color as my skin, but at night, they are red/pink. Is that normal?

 

Hey! the only way to really feel reassured is to talk to your doctor about all of these questions Smile To be honest, that's what we mods just have to tell you guys when you come to us with any health concerns. You may very well be fine, but since we're not doctors and we can't even see you face to face, it's not for us to tell you what's fine and what isn't. You know your body. Trust your instincts and talk to your doc!

Okay so, I have these two guy friends that are younger than me and I've known them since before pre-k, and I love hangin' out with them. But...I am a six grader and there in 4th and 3rd gr. Is it weird that I enjoy their company? Everyone always tells me that we're growing apart, but I'm still with them at least once a week and in the summer even more (which is how it's always been)! I don't think we'll grow apart for at least another year, When do you think we'll end up not seeing each other as often (or not at all)? Thanks!! :0)

 

Hey! It's hard to say. If it hasn't already happened I kind of think you guys will stay friends Smile There's no rule that says you have to grow apart just because you're older. if that happens naturally, it'll be too bad but if you still like hanging out with them just keep on keepin' on Smile
