Is he flirty or just friendly?


 
What’s the difference between being friendly, joking around and flirting? I can’t seem to tell the difference.
 
Bill: Being friendly is showing politeness: “Hi, how are you?” Joking is trying to make someone laugh: “Hey, what’s with the hair?” And flirting is trying to get someone to notice you: “Hey, do you like this dress on me? Really? You’re just saying that....” Being friendly might result in a casual conversation. Flirting might result in a date.  And joking might result in a conversation, date or breakup. Class dismissed.
 
Dave: The difference is... There isn’t one. That’s what makes flirting so wonderful. You never quite know where you stand. Life would be boring without that tinge of doubt—was that a sly wink or just fluttering to get a lash out of the eye? Besides, if doubts about flirting didn’t exist, neither would Guy Q&A columnists. As for Bill’s hair comment, that’s not friendly, joking or flirting. Take it from a guy with goofy hair—that’ll get you nowhere.

k, so theres a cutie in my grade and i adore him! in fact i have since 3rd grade! im major crushing on him and theres only two more weeks of school! were going to seperat middle schools next year. anyway i have some probs,
1 he tells me jokes a lot and when his friends make fun of me or ask me to leave he says im fine or changes the subject, what is this?
2 he is dyslexic and im a straight a student, is he intimidated? does he see me... how?
3 plz help! i wanna snag him but not make him uncomfortable or have him laugh at me, what should i do?

 

Hey! 1) It sounds like he's flirting with you ;) 2) That's hard to predict, unless he says otherwise he's probably not that intimidated 3)It sounds to me like you really like this guy Smile congrats, it can be fun to have a crush. The best way to deal with this is to be his friend and see if something more happens naturally. I have seen so many girls get hurt and ruin friendships because they "had to know" if someone liked them, and they asked the guy about it and made the whole situation awkward. I even did that myself when I was younger. It's better to have a secret crush on your friend than to have a public crush on your ex-friend. good luck!

Ok so there's this guy i really like and hes in my soanish class. We talk all the time in school and sometimes outsde of school. He teases me sometimes too and i cant tell if its his way of flirting. (calling me short) Everyone thiks we like each other and we would make a cute couple how do i find out if he likes me back and wants to go out with me without asking him??

Hey Amandaa15, sounds like this guy likes ya to me. Maybe hint at going out and see what he says. You could try saying something like “That (name of a movie) looks soo good. I really want to see it. But none of my friends want to go with me.” or “Do you like bowling?” Letting him know you want to go out without actually saying it might give you a clue if he wants to go out with you. Kay so there is this guy and i like him a lot, but he is dating one of my friends and they like each other a lot. She talks about him all the time. We hanged out all night last night and she wasnt there. It was awsome. And it seamed like he was flirting with me. Me and my friend are really close and we have 2 classes together. We have already got in a huge fight this year. So what do i do? Do i iust give up on the guy?

This is a very sticky situation! I think it would be best, as hard as it sounds, to give up on the guy. Guys will come and go but you will always have your friends there with you. I think it is very important to never let a guy come in between a friendship. Put yourself in her shoes, how would you feel if she was talking to your boyfriend that you really liked behind your back? I think it is best to just give up on the guy and be more committed to your friendship. I hope this helps and good luck doll!

ok so there is this guY i like but my friend likes him to! i dont know what to do he's always joking around with me but also with her but not as much. me and my friends can tell she is trying to make a move on him and i dont know what to do! i really like him. HELP!! also we used to sit together in math but we got separted from being to talkitive and loud. is that a sign that he likes me?!?! please answer back soon!


Hey lovelife123, this is a tricky sitch. You want the guy to like you, but then what if your friend gets hurt? And what if he likes your friend and you get hurt? There are two things you could do. One, you could talk it out with your friend, and see if you guys can come to an agreement that neither of you will be mad if one of you start dating him. Or two, you both can decided to let him go and find other guys, because you don’t want a guy to break up your friendship. Boys will always come and go but your girls will always be there. I have a problem. My fam just recently starting spending more time with our friends who have a son my age. He's really cute and nice and everything I look for in a guy and I like him a lot. We were texting and I thought that he was flirting back. Even my friends and mom did. Plus I took him to a dance at my school and he seemed to have fun. It's a little awkward when our families hang out but we talk and have fun. But just recently he started not replying to my texts. This has happened three times so I know it wasn't an accident or anything. I'm worried I intimidate him or that he just doesn't like me. I don't know what to do because I really really like him and we're into the same stuff and everything. I don't want to look desperate though by texting him again. The problem is that we're not really close enough for me to confront him without ruining things and making it totally uncomfortable every time our families hang out from then on. Thanks for your help!




Hey girl,

There's no reason to confront him! You're not dating each other, so he really doesn't have to respond to your texts if he doesn't want to. There's no way for us to know exactly why he's become distant but, just like you said, you don't want to come off as desperate or look like you're forcing it, so try to take a step back and focus on other things. (Friends, meeting other potential crushes, etc.) If he misses you and wants to talk again, he'll text you! And the next time you see him at a family thing, it's only going to be awkward if you let it be that way. Personally, I would just act laid back, say hey in a friendly way, and move on. Don't let him see that it bothers you - and it'll make it easier for YOU to move on too Smile
