In a new sitch? Tips from "The Immortal Rules" by Julie Kagawa

Life throws some seriously challenging new sitches at us sometimes—from leaving middle school for high school to moving across the country. Big changes can be fun and exciting…but they can also feel pretty scary.

Just ask Allie Sekemoto from Julie Kagawa’s novel The Immortal Rules. An “unregistered” human in a world ruled by vampires, Allie lives life on the fringes of society with a handful of other outcast humans. Spending her time scrapping for food and living in the rubble of torn-down buildings, every day in Allie’s life is a fight for survival.

It might seem like a terrifying existence, but it’s all Allie knows—until one fateful night when Allie’s world is flipped upside down and she becomes a vampire.

Allie’s life couldn’t have changed more drastically—and it all happened overnight. Suddenly, she’s forced to follow the rules of being a Vampire…while living with her human allies. With her new hunger for human blood, can Allie deal?

Talk about an extreme change. While we’re not sure how Allie will adapt to her life as Vampire, we do have some tips for you on surviving those scary new sitches in life.

Top Tips for Scary Sitches

  • Hash it out: Talk to a friend or parent about whatever has ya shaken up. A chat with your BFF can help you put things in perspective.

  • Seek the silver lining: There’s an upside to everything—even the most seemingly tough sitches can have unexpectedly fun surprises. Look for the good, and you’ll find it.

  • Get challenged by change: Who doesn’t love a new adventure? Embrace your new situation and think of it as an exciting new opportunity that’ll make your life way more interesting.
