The policy makers are defending it by insisting that this is a preventative measure against sexually transmitted diseases and teen pregnancy for students who are interested in becoming (or already are) sexually active. The policy also makes abstinence counseling available to the tweens and teens, as well as an opt-out option that parents can choose if they do not want their child to have access to the contraceptives. Opponents of the plan claim children as young as 12 should not be sexually active and that giving them a means of birth control encourages them to experiment sexually at far too young an age.
Here at GL, we believe that making contraceptives available to those who want them isn’t encouraging kids to have sex, it’s helping those already interested to do so safely. Research has proven that kids are having sex whether their parents like it or not. Shouldn’t they at least do so safely?

POSTED IN sex ed, In the News
Look, birth control and contraceptives are choices, not things that should be given out with no questioning. Schools do not have the right to pass them out, for it isn't really any of their business. Although there is an exception, when you are in high school taking sex-ed, because that is when teens become more aware. It is however sad the amount of middle and high schoolers who are affected by S.t.D.s and unexpected pregnancies, so protection is good for those who have chosen not to wait until marriage, but what would be better is prevention. Condoms and birth control cannot solve the sexual issues in this society. Besides, it can be extremely rude to those of us who are members to religions that may say to wait until marriage. If the school systems would really like to help, then they should help prevent NOT promote. By the way I am in sixth grade and I wrote this because even us youngsters understand what a jeopardizing situation sex can be.

i think you should only have sex after you are married so im not very fond of this idea.however i do think that if kids already are sexually active this is a god way to stop diseases and teen pregnancies. if u agree comment on my profile page

I'm also with that girl at the top. In my opinion, sex if for marriage. But I'm also a Catholic... but honestly, just because it might be 'inappropriate' i don't think there should be any reason that they aren't given out. Kids are going to do it whether their parents approve or not. I think that they might as well provide them. I mean, parents, would you rather have a pregnant daughter or teen dad on your hands? I really don't think it's a problem.

This is really sickening. Can't they just teach 12 year olds to wait for that instead of giving then contraceptives? And that is encouraging kids to have sex. It's putting the issue right out there on the table, showing that it is accepted and normal for middle schoolers to be doing that. It shouldn't be.
