This 11-year-old is the only preteen girl to race ATV Motocross, or motorcycles known as “Quads.”  She not only races, she wins big – out of 140 races, she’s finished first 90 times.  Of course, it hasn’t always been easy for this driven daredevil.  Davis had to deal with initially chilly attitudes from the boy racers, and has to balance school and traveling to races. 

GL chatted up Davis to learn about her racing highlights, the challenges she’s faced and her advice for goal getters like you... 

Girls’ Life:  How did you get started racing?

Davis Eames:  A good friend of my family’s whose son raced Motocross invited us to go to a race with them when I was six. My dad and I went for the weekend to the track, and [my dad] entered me in the race. I was the only girl, and I won it. It was then that my dad realized that I had talent. We started hitting the road and I raced as much as I could.

GL:  How does your family help you pursue your racing dreams?

Davis:  My parents have always supported me in everything I do, and when it comes to racing, it is no different. They are always there to encourage me to do my best. And when things don’t go well, they are there to console me. They sacrifice a lot for me to do this, but it is something that we do as a family and it is building memories that will last a lifetime.

GL:  What has been the best moment of your racing career so far?

Davis:  I would say winning two championships in one year is a pretty big accomplishment.

GL:  What’s been the biggest challenge you’ve faced, and how did you work through it?

Davis:  Probably being accepted by all the boys in the beginning. At first it was a big pill for them to swallow, having a girl come and beat them all the time, but as the years went on, they have all learned to respect me and even cheer me on.

GL:  How do you manage your busy racing schedule and being a student?

Davis:  For several years my mom home schooled me, which made it easy for me to work on the road, but now I am in a private school. They  are very understanding of my schedule  and give me work to take on the road with me.

GL:  What do you like to do when you’re not racing? 

Davis:  I enjoy going to the beach, surfing, stand-up paddle boarding and making films.

GL:  What are your goals for the future?

Davis:  I would love be a Pro ATV racer just like my good friend and role model, Dustin Wimmer.

GL:  What advice do you have for other girls going for their goals?

Davis: Always be true to who you are and what it is you want to accomplish.  Success is not something that comes overnight; it is something that you always have to be working at. Consistency wins championships, and I try to always be consistent. I also always try to be a nice person, and make it so that no one has anything but great things to say about me.
