Contrary to popular opinion, it’s never too late to make a
good impression. Sure, the season is coming to a close, but you’ve got plenty
of time left to win over your coach—and your teammates. We’ve got four fab tips
to help ya score big-time when it comes to good behavior bonus points.
Work your butt off to ace tough moves
Just ‘cause you’ve got one game left doesn’t mean the
clock’s run out completely. Mark down all the practices you have remaining and
include a goal for each one. Maybe you wanna slip just one ball past your
team’s ace goalie. Maybe you wanna nail that header. Maybe you wanna score top
relay honors. Whatever it is, do your very best to accomplish it.
Be Miss Congeniality
So you weren’t voted captain? Didn’t make the starting
line-up? Got tons of crit from your coach for that botched save? Brush it off,
slap on a smile and go get ‘em, tiger. Be as helpful, cheerful and agreeable as
you can be. That means volunteering to grab fresh towels or water, being a
sweetie to your snobby forward—whatever it takes to show everyone that you’re a
team player. Good behavior will gain your friends…friends who just might be
willing to help you get that move you’ve been missing down pat.
Pep it up
We know it’s hot and you’re sweaty and tired. But that
doesn’t mean you can slack off now if you wanna catch Coach’s eye. Grab a towel
to wipe the sweat off your brow and then trot back to the lineup for drills.
Always perform to the best of your ability. You might not be perfect, but your
dedication definitely counts.
Ask for summer ideas
After practice ends one day, lag behind the others and help
Coach clean up, or simply walk back to the locker rooms with her. Ask her for
pointers—particularly if she has any recommendations for a good summer rec team
or training camp that might help you improve during your time away from school.
She’ll be impressed that you’re thinking so far ahead…and she’ll remember your work
ethic come tryouts next year.
