Check these out, too...
Though ballerinas may make their dances seem effortless, their calm poise and elegant moves are masking the extreme pressures and battles they’re facing internally. With cutthroat competition, intensive practice and unfailing determination, these dancers are true athletes.
Breaking Pointe gives viewers an unscripted look at Ballet West in Salt Lake City, where ballerinas strive for perfection and nothing less. You’ll see what really happens when the lights aren’t on and the curtains aren’t up—talented, but exhausted dancers who push through the blood, sweat and tears to perfect an art form. Inevitable jealousy and dirty politics play a larger role in the ballet scene than you may think.
Want to clear up the misconceptions and know the real stories that go on behind the scenes of a ballet company (while also looking at some of the most beautiful dance performances around)? Look no further. The hard work and dedication that these true athletes have just might push you to your “breaking pointe.”
Be sure to tune in to the Breaking Pointe series premiere May 31 on The CW. Then come back and let us know your thoughts.

Ive been dancing since I was 16 months old and I'm thirteen now. I don't compete but my dance school acts like we do. We work hard I dance three sometimes four times a week for five hours. I do points and ballet and it is hard work. Most ballerinas r more fig than baseball players or football players. Who runs the world? Girls!

I've been dancing since I was 2. I've competed since I was 6. It IS super intense. Especially when dancing w/injuries and mean, nasty, self-centered girls. I naturally have the body, feet, and ability to be an incredible dancer (i've won the highest gold possible at all my competitions so far and i've won Miss Teen America three times in a row as well as Outstanding Teen soloist since I turned 13, I'm 16 now. and Breakout Artist of 2012!! I love dancing. it's my life. dance is my form of expression. i dance 6 hours 6 days a week. Mon - Sat. It's an AMAZING life. I'm joining a professional ballet company this summer!!!! I'm gonna be come a soloist b/c that's the part i've been told to audition for. no corps du ballet auditions for me! Soloist all the way and then....PRINCIPAL DANCER!!!!!

OMGGGG haha i danced en pointe for about 3 years and i danced since i was 2 years old. It was pretty much my life for 11 years and nothing else. I quit earlier this year because it caused me alot of stress with all the drama, tears, cattiness, and tons of practice. I danced in a dance company and it was crazy. Its fun but you truly must push your self to make it i the ballet buisness. Trust me i know. I'm glad that everyone will finally see how hard professional dancers work because i understand. And for those of you who say this doesn't happen, well you must have never been in a dance studio. its cutthroat.

It is harder than people think, but where I dance, its not near as competitive as this looks (and I'm glad!)

I have been dancing for 9 years, 9 years of ballet, a year of hiphop, and a year of jazz. Being a ballerina isnt what everyone thinks of when they-stereotypically-think that it's all spins(which by the way are actually bouree turns, thank ya very much)and pink tutus. It takes hard working to be a dancer, and you have to have both incredible mental and physical strength and determination. Even if you aren't a competitive dancer(and i am not)it is still a MAJOR challenge. All dancers should be appreciated for their efforts. The biggest challenge I've faced is possibly how much time ballet takes up. I wouldn't trade it for the world, but you really must be committed. <3
