Forbes.com reports that an experiment conducted by UCLA scientists showed that giving rats a fructose solution in place of regular drinking water were much slower at completing a maze than mice that didn’t consume the fructose. The fructose interfered with the brain cells’ ability to “talk” to one another, meaning that they couldn’t think quickly or clearly. HFCS could cause your memory and recall abilities to tank, too, just like the rats’. Yikes!
But there is good news. The scientists also gave one group of rats a diet rich on omega-3 fatty acids. These rats found their way through the maze quickly. The researchers have also concluded that an omega-3-heavy diet can counteract the mind-numbing effects of a diet high in HFCS.
Your best bet for pre-finals food? Cut out the highly processed, packaged goodies and munch on all-natural sweets instead, like fresh berries. Yum!

We are being compared to rats because we have the same senses as them because we are mammals. If youve ever heard anyone say that dogs are smart like humans, thats why (because they have the same senses as us). Which means that if the rats were affected by sugar, so are humans.
by kelly268 on 7/4/2012 2:33:25 PM
they should try it on floride, i heard thats really bad for you and it is used in rat posineing!

Rats have very similar brains to humans, so they commonly use them to learn of health effects on humans.
by puffinlover99 on 5/30/2012 4:49:35 PM
This is bogus. It's not real. I mean it's bad for you if you consume to much high fructose corn syrup but a little is OK. And the experiment was poorly conducted also. The should have used rats for both test groups. Not mice.
by Happy_Bunnie on 5/30/2012 1:15:03 PM
guys, they're not comparing us to rats, they're using rats to simulate what would happen in our own heads, without testing something that could be dangerous on actual humans. this is how they come up with cures to diseases since scientists can't just test any idea on a human, it's illegal.

i agree with <3grayson chance<3 , i have always loved sugar, i even a=called my grandma the sugar lady cuz she would always give me sweets, its funny reading this paragraph, and looking at my report card, ***all A's and B's*** hitting the honor roll, for the fourth quarter. i must be a complete dope! at least i have someone to thank, <3grayson chance<3 for seeing the truth!
by angie333 on 5/29/2012 10:55:23 PM
i don't think sugar necessarily makes you slower, just high fructose corn syrup.
by Glitterheart16 on 5/29/2012 10:42:23 PM
Sugar doesn't really make you stupid, it makes slows down reflexes and causes you to be somewhat lathergic. It might look like the mice are stupid, but that's only because they are simpler animals. You know ghe sluggish feeling you get after eating a little too much junk food? Yeah, that's basically all this article is referring to.
by miki_amu_1fan on 5/29/2012 10:33:35 PM
hard to believe, but our bodies may be different from rats. and, hello, is it just me thinking: ANIMAL TESTING!!!
by marissa13_3 on 5/29/2012 9:25:04 PM
The title got your attention though, didn't it?
by rainyseattlegirl on 5/29/2012 9:21:08 PM
Uh.. The title is kind of misleading... sugar doesnt make you stupid, it makes you slower. But slow and steady wins the race, so you could still be bright even if you consume sugar. I LOVE sugar [I KNOW its bad for me...] and Im in all the smartest classes, taking Algebra 1 Honors in 7th grade. Its a well-written, informative atricle, just wish the title wasnt so... wrong.
by sinkinginblack on 5/29/2012 9:01:02 PM
XD XD LOL @fearless;) But really, i know that sugar can slow you down, but this artical does not have a good title. i mean really? "sugar makes yo stupid." now girls will be all "omg omg omg i just ate sugar im gonna fail my grade" exept from that it is a pretty good artical
by red716 on 5/29/2012 8:29:50 PM
