How To: Colorblock your tips

Ah, the French mani. Every nail artist enthusiast must pay respects to this look, no matter how much it was overplayed in the past. Still, I’d say it’s about time to revamp the stuffy white and light pink combo. My solution? Take two of hottest trends this second, colorblocking and neon, and revitalize this classic. It’s quick, it’s simple and – best of all – it’s soo summery!

Polishes and tools

Sally Hansen Hard as Nails Xtreme Wear Nail Color, Mellow Yellow, $3,

Sally Hansen Nail Art Pen, Chartreuse, $8,

Sally Hansen Nail Art Pen, Turquoise, $8,

Note: Nail art pens aren’t necessary – you can use a thin paintbrush or nail art brush – but they’re very helpful.  If you opt for the tip guides or hole reinforcers for the half moon or the French tip, wait at least an extra half hour so that the sticker doesn’t rip off any polish. I got too antsy before and I had to start all over. Lesson learned: never do nail art hastily.

1. After painting a clear coat, paint your base coat. Let dry.

2. Create an arch at the base of your nail for your half moon. Let dry.

Tip: Start small and increase in size if you want it to be more noticeable.

3. To get a clean, even French tip, place your brush or nail pen near the left cuticle – without touching it – and gradually roll your finger away from where the pen started. The goal is to keep the pen still and let your finger do all the work.

4. Cover with a clear coat and voilà!

Are you a fan of this French mani revival? Blog about it, babes.

Make that shiny sequin shirt into a daytime piece by rocking a denim button up over top of it. Leave a couple of buttons undone for a flash of sparkle.
