Rock a family road trip

Sometimes the worst thing for a family can be the vacation that’s meant to bring it together. That’s why we’re sayin’ see-ya to road trips of old. Fits? Fights? Feuds? We don’t think so! Fab up your family’s next road trip with our four best road rules.

Road rule #1: Resist temptation

Yeah, it’s super easy to reach out and pinch your baby bro just ‘cause. But when he’s pinching you back—and Mom and Dad are totally on his side—you’ll wish you’d kept your hands to yourself. So why not start that way, huh? Instead of doing or saying the things you know are going to cause trouble, just, you know, keep your mischief to yourself.

Road rule #2: Share

Hogging anything, whether it’s the cup holders, the snacks, the iPod or the radio controls, is a recipe for disaster when you’re stuck in a car with a bunch of different people for who knows how long. If you’re worried about not getting your turn, lay down some ground rules before you hit the road, like you and your sibs get an hour each to listen to your tunes before swapping stations.

Road rule #3: If you can’t say something nice…

…Don’t say it at all—seriously. We know Mom’s constant comments about how your shorts are too short or how cute your crush is are weighing ya down, but bite your tongue and hold back that sassy retort you’re dying to toss into the ring. Now is not the time for a sparring match.

Road rule #4: Be a team player

We looove road trip games, like I Spy and the License Plate Game, but if someone in the car isn’t happy with the selection, they’ll find a way to make everyone else unhappy, too. Instead of battling the blues, settle on a game everyone enjoys, or take turns.  Bingo, anyone?
