4 so-easy ideas to keep healthy on vacation

Check these out, too...

  • Could you deal with an all-veg cafeteria menu?
  • 7 ridiculous caffeine-laced products (and why they just might disappear)
Just because you’re jumpin’ in the car with the fam for some good ol’ roadtrippin’ doesn’t mean ya have to pack on the pounds. Sure, it’s fun to splurge at some fancy restaurants or dig in to a li’l fast food, but that doesn’t mean your at-home healthy habits have to be tossed out the window. Here are four steps to help ya stay on track…

Have a Cook In

Of course your fam is gonna go out to eat when you’re far away from the comforts of your own kitchen. But don’t run to a restaurant for every meal. If the place you’re stayin’ at has a kitchen, have everyone pitch in to help cook a nice family dinner together. Fresh, homemade foods are better for your bod than stuff from restaurants, which may include extra salt and other additives. Playing chef also offers portion control as an added bonus.

Keep It Real

It’s vacation, so of course you can have some treats. But if you’re diggin’ dessert after every meal and skippin’ out on the green stuff, you need to rethink your definition of “fun.” You don’t have to stress over it, but keep a tally in the back of your mind about how many veggies versus desserts you’ve had. When the greens start getting left in the dust, you know you need to prioritize a little better.

Pack Light

When you’re jumpin’ in the car or on a plane headed for adventure city, don’t forget to pack yourself some healthy snacks. If you end up runnin’ on empty, you’re most likely to stop for fast food, and that will not make your bod happy. So instead of grabbing a greasy burger and fries, keep on hand fresh foods from home, like carrot sticks, bananas, and celery with peanut butter.

Stick to Your Sched

At home, you usually munch on snacks throughout the day and keep your main meals small. But while you’re on the go with the fam, you’re missin’ out on your midday nomming. So instead of ending up starved and pigging out when mealtimes roll around, try to keep up your usual routine. Don’t just skip meals or snacks because your bro is doin’ it – if you need a little somethin’ to keep yourself from binging later, speak up, sistah!

So babes, what do you do to stay active and healthy on your vacays?

We always eat out the day we get there, and the day we leave, but between those days, like GL said,my grandma cooks one meal, my aunt cooks one meal, my other aunt cooks one meal, and my family cooks one meal. Some great easy, delicious ; yet healthy meals you cook on vacation are : A fruit or garden salad. It might not fill you up, but you always can have a side of potatoes or beans. Spagetthi and garlic bread is also a great idea, and, you, of course have to have a barbecue roast. Instead of hot dogs with chips, have hot dogs with a salad. If you have to eat chips, just don't eat that many.

when our family goes on a road trip, we drive by car and stop rarely. Whenever we stop, I get out and walk our dog as much as possible. I fit in as much exercise as possible. Also, I snack on carrot sticks and apples whenever I'm hungry. It helps a lot.

Whenever I'm on vacay, I make sure to exercise in whatever way I can at least once every other day, whether that means swimming in the hotel pool or taking a run on the beach. Maggie P.

I usually pack granola bars, watermelon, salads w/ blueberries and cheese for lunches, strawberries, TONS of water. Also, it`s great to get out and stretch your legs at every bathroom break.

Hey pinkpi26, yeah you should start seeing results. I'm not sure if they will show in a soon as a week, but your bod will start to change. Good luck girly! Xoxo

MOD!!!
Im thinking about starting a daily routine with 45 mins of a mix of yoga and strength training (on wii fit) plus about 15 mins of cardio. I would do this at least once every day. Do you think i will begin to see results in a week? Im already pretty skinny but i just want to tone up a little more nd build muscle.
Thanks in Advance! Lynae P.

I don't usually reply to other comments but what you said made me want to tell you what a great idea I thought it was. Smile every year my family and another family go to the beach, so I may have to suggest this idea!!! (I knw this is not healthy, but my friends mom make amazing cheesecake!!) thanks for leaving it as a comment!!!! <3 ej

My family ( aunts, uncles, cousin, grandma ect.) always rent a cottage on the lake. Usually the first night and the last night we always go out but in between that the different families take turns cooking healthy, homemade meals.
