The Real Deal: Are there any sensitive guys out there?

Why is it so hard to find a sensitive guy?

Dave: Actually, plenty of guys are sensitive. What varies is the degree to which we hide it. That’s why we like you girls so much—you teach us how to express ourselves, get in touch with our feelings, blah, blah, blah. Girls learn from guys too, but mostly about LeBron James and how to change spark plugs on a Mustang. To get Mr. Tough Guy to open up, start with fairly neutral emotional topics (“Doesn’t that scene in Field of Dreams make you cry?” “What is the sweetest thing anyone has ever done for you?”) vs. direct questions like, “Do you really like me?” By showing him you are a good listener who won’t laugh at his softer side, you might find the guy you are looking for was there all along.

I have a crush on my bgf and I'm almost certain he likes me back. But lately I wonder if I like him partly because I didn't think I could get anyone else. Don't get me wrong he is a very nice guy and he cares about me. I thought about this because I found out that other guys like me but I dont know them like I know my bgf. Should I explore my options or pay attention to my bgf? We have been fliffting for about a year and if I try to move on it will hurt his feelings and mine and I just met the other guys who don't even know me.

Hey girlie,

It's totally okay to be unsure how you feel, so don't be upset at yourself for being confused! It's natural to like someone you know well like your bgf, and if you get along well with him there's nothing wrong with having a crush on him! You can't please everyone who likes you, so if someone you don't like asks you out, it's okay to politely decline--it's better in the long run than leading them on! If moving on will hurt your feelings, that's a good sign you like your bgf, so enjoy your friendship and maybe it will lead to a relationship when you two are ready!

im probally gonna sound like a whiny little girl right now, but i really truly am fustrated! I really want to meet some guys and have a bf! Every single one of my friends have met a guy/bf and have had a first kiss, and Im the last one. Im sixteen, only ever went on one date and nvr had my first kiss. Everyone tells me im really pretty and funny and that it intimadates guys and to just hang in there. Well im tired of it! I feel like ill nvr meet a guy and im getting upset and fustrated.i hate being the last and i now have no one to really talk to....so what can i do to cope, met dimebguys, and hopefully get a bf/have my first kiss? Im really starting to feel left out and upset....

Hey! I felt the exact same way you did when I was younger and you know what? it got better. I'm actually really glad now that I didn't have a bunch of insignificant bfs in middle school and high school. You'll meet someone really substantial when you're older. Good guys are worth the wait. You don't need a boyfriend to validate you. Read books, have fun, and get to know who YOU are before you worry about boys. I promise you will meet someone one day.

ok sooo, im going off to college in less than 2 months and my boyfriend is gonna be a senior in high school. we've been dating for 3 months and we havent talked about what were doing relationshipwise when i go to college. yesterday he asked what i wanted to do and i told him i hadnt thought about it yet..kinda true. my college is an hour away from our town. we discussed what love was and decided it meant commitment. right after we said this he said "i love you." idk if this is him saying he wants to try to keep our relationship going when i go to college or not. i reeeeaaalllllllyyy like him and want to keep the relationship but i dont want to be constantly missing him and him being miserable all school year bc we cant see each other very frequently. HELP! idk what to do!

Hey girl,

If you want to keep up the relationship, focus on the happy times and not how much you'll miss each other! It will be difficult, but you can still see each other when you're home, and you can still talk on the phone and email each other. If you both like each other that much, it's worth at least giving it a shot while you're in college to see how you handle the long-distance thing.

MODMODMODMOD!!!
I met this older guy at surf camp (he's 16 and I'm 14) and I really think he likes me and I like him back. He's funny but I'm worried that his sense of humor is too old for me. I don't really feel that way but is that too much of an age difference?????

Hey girlie!

If you're uncomfortable with the age difference, then maybe stay friends. But if you really like him and it seems that he likes you...go for it! He is older though so just be careful and make sure you feel comfortable around him. Don't let him put you in a situation that makes you feel weird, and if he does, express your feelings about it. Now go hit the waves with your surfer dude!!!

So this year I'd really like a date for a school dance in October. There's this guy I think is really cute but I've only talked to him a few times and we aren't friends. Would it be weird to ask my friend who is friends with him to have a get together with both of us? If not... what can I do to get to know him?

Hey girl, that's not weird at all. What else are your chicas for but to back you up when you're eyin' up a potential crush? A group get-together is the perf way to get a li'l more familiar with a guy without it being awkward, so definitely see if your girl can pull somethin' together. Good luck!
