How to get perfect loose waves like Bella Thorne

In our August/September issue, we showed Bella with those gorge bedhead waves! Get this look on your own tresses in 5 easy-as-can-be steps, just in time for BTS.

Step One:

This look works best on hair that’s a couple days dirty, because it helps hold the curl better. For those gals who need hair to be squeaky clean 24/7, try switching up your shampoo and conditioner to prep it for curl! Girlies with straight, fine tresses should use a volumizing shampoo to give the hair texture and volume. Chicks with already textured locks should conquer frizz with a smoothing shampoo. Follow with a lightweight conditioner that won’t weigh down your hair.

We love: Lush Veganese (3.3 fl oz), $10, lushusa.com

Step Two:

Hair is only beautiful when it’s healthy, so keep your hair lookin’ good with a heat protectant before curling, which can minimize damage by locking in moisture. This means say goodbye to dry frizz and say hello to stunning shine!

We love: Tresemme Thermal Hair Creations Heat Tamer Protective Spray, $8, amazon.com

Step Three:

This part might take some practice (but practice makes perfect!): Get an alligator clip and clip off the top two-thirds of your hair. Use a 1” curling iron to start curling the bottom third of your hair. Wrap 1-inch sections around the barrel in a corkscrew shape, hold for a few seconds, and then release and repeat. Afterwards, bring down another layer of your hair on top of the curls. Use the same method to curl the middle layer of your hair. Finally, take off the alligator clip and curl the remaining top portion of the hair.

*GL Tip #1: Work from back to front so you can see your work as it progresses.

*GL Tip #2: Curl away from your face so that your pretty face isn’t hidden from view!

Step Four:

Don’t touch your tresses until your hair cools! Once cooled, loosen the curls with your fingers and style hair into beautifully tousled waves.

Step Five:

Finish off the look with your favorite hairspray. Not even this summer’s humidity can loosen up your new look! Seek out one that packs in SPF to protect your hair from the sun’s harmful UV rays.

We love: John Frieda Frizz-Ease Moisture Barrier Hairspray in Firm-Hold, $6, drugstore.com

Hi! I have a problem with my hair. My hair is super curly, frizzy, and it gets so poofy when it dries. I want to wear my hair loose but I can't because my hair is so poofy! I need advice! Also, would a texturizing sea salt spray work on my kind of hair so I can get beachy waves? Thanks so much!

Hey babe,

Unfortunately there is no cure for poofiness - it's just how your hair will naturally be! But, you can control its craziness. First, make sure you're using the right kind of shampoo & conditioner - they can make all the difference. Try getting kinds that are meant for curly hair. The frizziness can happen when your hair is dry or you have split ends. There are many products you can try that you can put on during the day that will smooth down your hair and make it more sleek. I don't have curly hair so I'm not sure of any specific brands, but just look out for serums or sprays that say that they control frizziness!

Help!!! I'm going to a family picnic on saturday and i have NO idea what to wear or how to do my hair! We'll be playing lotsa games so i cant wear a dress and i dont know what do!! HELP!! Thanks sooo much!

Hey girl,

No biggie! If you're playing lots of games and moving around a lot, try doing braids in your hair. It's a super cute look but will also keep your hair in place and out of your face! For clothes, wear something comfy that you can move around in - maybe a cute pair of shorts and a tank top?

So school is starting on August 16th and there is something I need to do this year that I didn't last year. I usually during the day have the worst case of underarm sweat. It is just so visible. Like my underarms are soaked. I do use clinical protection at night and during the day from like 9 o'clock till to the end of the school day. It's that bad where I have to wear jackets to cover it up. I want to use clinical protection during the night and a brand call "Teen Spirit" during the day. Any additional advice? You know how the beginning of the school year is, HOT HOT HOT, so i want to wear an outfit without a jacket with confidence knowing my under arms are dry the whole day! I want to raise my hand and know I am not a sweaty mess. It will be my Sophmore year btw and I am only 14. HELP PLEASE! Thnx Smile

Hey girl,

I would def talk to your doc about this. It sounds like you may need extra help keeping dry, so he should be able to prescribe some sort of strong antiperspirant. Also, try to wear more loose fitting shirts to help keep your body cool. You can also try bringing a change of clothes with you to school, so you can have a refresher mid day.
