Looking for a little confidence boost before heading back to class? Bella Thorne’s got the answer. The Shake It Up star is currently teaming up with her co-star Zendaya as part of Disney’s Friends for Change Ambassadors, and they’re hard at work inspiring kids to take a stand against bullying, helping to make the world a better place.

As part of the program, B and Z recently hit up the Free The Children’s Leadership Academy in Arizona, where they participated in a series of workshops designed to give youth leaders a deeper understanding of their leadership styles. Pretty cool, right?

It’s no secret Bella’s fallen victim to school bullying in the past due to her dyslexia. But it’s only made her stronger. Here, she shares her best tips for dealing with bullies, and how we can all be leaders this school year.

GL: What’s the best thing a girl can do when she’s face-to-face with a bully?

Bella: Walk away. It’s that easy. Sometimes people get scared in a situation where they can’t walk away, and that’s when you know it’s bad. They’re too scared to walk away and so they just put up with it.

What's the best thing a girl can do if she sees somebody being bullied?

Run and tell a teacher because they will bring the kid in for bullying. Then they’ll have to call their parents, and no kid in school wants their parents to be called.

So true! What about something girls can do if they see a friend being bullied?

Help them. Don’t just watch and be a bystander. I know that while I was being bullied [for my dyslexia], I always wanted someone to come and rescue me.

What if you said something mean to someone—when’s the best time to apologize?

The second you say it. Apologize immediately and say you didn’t mean it like that. Because once the damage is done, it’s done, and there’s nothing you can do about that.

The Friends for Change program also focuses on being a leader. What are some characteristics a leader embodies?

I think everyone can be [one]! As long as you’re doing the right thing and you’re following your heart, that’s [being] a leader.

What’s one small way a girl can become a leader this school year?

Make sure you’re always studying. Personally, for Zendaya (her mom and dad are teachers) and me, that’s a big thing—and obviously it’s also a big thing for your future.

What’s one thing every girl should remember when walking into her first day of school?

Look straight [ahead] and walk like it’s your last walk, hunnie. Act like you’re walking down the runway.

Catch a peek at Bella and Zendaya’s experience at Free The Children’s Leadership Academy below…

I love Bella! She is so pretty and seems so funny. The only thing is they make her Shake It Up character seem kind of dumb. :/ This is a great thing she's doing

Hurt people, hurt people. Never forget that...if someone at school is hurting you, its because someone has hurt them. It doesn't excuse them but it gives them a small explanation that makes it a little less painful.

MOD MOD MOD!
Okay, so at my school, when you are in 8th grade, you get what is called a "school family". Do you have any advice on how to get the shy kids to talk a little, amd games to introduce everyone and how to get to know everyone, in not a boring type of way??
Thanxx(:

Hey chica, that sounds interesting. A good get-to-know-you game is "Two Truths and a Lie." One person starts and says 3 facts about herself. Then whoever the guesser is has to guess which one is the lie. Once they've guessed, the original person tells them if they got it right or not. Then the guesser takes a turn telling 2 truths and a lie, and the game continues. You learn a lot about people in a short amount of time that way. You can also play "Never Have I Ever." For that, everyone holds up 10 fingers. Then you go around the circle, and each person says something that they've never done. If someone says something you've done, you have to put a finger down. The goal is to be the last person still holding up fingers, so you just keep going around 'til all but one person is out.

MOD MOD MOD ok so,as you know school is coming up wich means school clothes shopping! But I want one of those half a shirts that are kinda baggy and you wear it over a tank top.(sorry i don't know what there called.)do you know any stores for those.also do you know any stores that sell really cute tights and shorts(not to short)because i want to put them together.oh and again sorry for not knowing the name of the shirts.thanks!

Hey babe, check out Nordstrom and Charlotte Russe for your cutoff, '80s-style tops. And Forever 21 has really cute tights. Shorts you can get just about anywhere, so check all 3 of those places for some of those.

MOD
I'm going for a babysitting job interview tomorrow where the mom wants to talk to me and observe me while I play with her kids(ages 8 and 1). I want to look nice, but I need something practical so I can keep up with the kids. Any ideas on what I should wear?

Hey babe, try some nice jean capris without rips and a nice, fitted shirt. The shirt can really be anything, as long as it isn't too low-cut. And finish it off with either comfy sandals or cute tennies. Good luck tomorrow!

can you help me out Smile. Both my parents are teachers plus my dads the head football and tennis coach. Peaple think that i get specal treatment beciuce of it. When really its alot harder for. Also kids are afraid of my dad and now me. please help

Hey chicky, that can be tough when your 'rents are at the same school as you. So avoid giving people something to talk about by having as little interaction with your 'rents as possible while you're all at school. If kids don't see you all hangin' out together, they might not associate you with your parents as much. And if that's not possible, just be your own person, and let other kids think what they want. Your real friends will know who you are and how things stand, and that's what matters.

MOD MOD MOD MOD MOD
I am a huge fan of Joel Faviere and almost no one else has ever even heard of him. He is such a huge inspiration for me because he has gone through so much in his life, like depression and addiction but he made it through. He does stuff helping teen depression and suicide. His video on youtube "Stay That Way" is very touching and I think that GL should post something about him or at least a link to his video. It gives you a strike of reality when he talks about the statistics. I know he has helped me with just his videos and his Twitter and he can help a lot of others if his name gets out there. If someone at GL could please post an article or link or something about him I would appreciate it SO much!

Hey girl, we'll take that into consideration. We can't highlight every awesome artist out there, but that's great that he's been such a positive inspiration for ya!

MODMODMOD!
I just had JV volleyball tryouts, and my best friend made it, not me. I feel like I've been played, because she came over to MY house, and used MY volleyball net to practice. She doesn't even HAVE a volleyball net. If she hadn't practiced every day at my house, she wouldn't have her overhand serves, and that's what she one-uped me on.
I can't believe how jealous I am of her. I don't even want to be her friend anymore, and we've been friends for 3 years. I feel totally screwed, because she made it and I didn't, when she practiced at my house.
What should I do?? Thanks so much

Hey chica! It stinks that you didn't make it, but remember that the coaches made the decision, not her.  She worked hard to improve (not that you didn't) and you were a good friend letting her use your space.  It's okay to be upset that you didn't make the team, but don't destroy 3 years of friendship by not being proud of your friend for making it! xoxo
