The kick-butt circuit that'll get ya in top try-out shape

It’s about to get intense! Celeb trainer Clay Burwell from High Performance NYC concocted this high-energy, martial-arts inspired workout that’ll tone ya up all over. Repeat this circuit three times through, a couple days a week. Cross-train on your off days to get fit even faster.

 

 

Superman Lat Pull

A resistance band makes this an awesome challenge (they’re about 10 bucks at Target). Wrap your band around the base of something sturdy. Get in a plank position, with your feet on the ground and elbows planted on the floor, keeping your body stick-straight. Extend one arm and grab both handles in one hand (flex your abs for balance). Bend your elbow and pull the handles toward you, so your hand is almost in line with your shoulders. Slowly return to start. Repeat for 10 reps and then work the other side.

 

Shadow Boxing

Get in a fighting stance, with feet about hips-width apart and one foot slightly in front of the other. Keep your abs tight and your fists clenched. Bend your knees to get a bit of a bounce going and practice punching. Repeat for 2-3 minutes in between each exercise.

 

Inchworm

Start with your hands stretched high over your hand. Reach for the ground, keeping your legs as straight as possible. Place your palms on the ground and walk your hands out as far as possible. You’ll hit push-up position along the way, but aim to get your arms further out. Then, slowly walk your legs up to your hands (you can bend your knees if you have to). Repeat until you’ve “inched” about 40 feet.

 

Star Pushup

Start in a pushup position. Lower your body down. Push yourself up. Once you’ve completed the pushup, rotate your hips and torso to one side, while reaching that arm high up into the air. Your feet will stack on top of each other as you rotate. Slowly lower back to start, with both hands on the ground, and repeat, opening up to opposite side. They’re tough—so do as many as you can (it’s OK to start with 2-3).

 

Side Kick

Start with your feet hips-width apart and your left arm bent and under your chin. Clench your left hand into a fist. With your right hand, hold onto something sturdy (like a table). Slowly bend your torso to the right and bend your left knee. Kick your left leg out, keeping your foot flexed. Repeat 10 times on each side.

Single Leg Squat

Start with your hands on your hips, with your feet hips-width apart. Bend your left knee up, so your foot raises off the floor. Slowly lower down, bending deeply on your right leg. Your left foot will touch down, slightly in front of your right foot. Tighten your abs and keep your back straight. Repeat 5 times on each side.

What are some things you can do to post your metabolism??




Hey girlie,

You can do all sorts of things to boost your metabolism! Check out this easy list:

- Eat a balanced, healthy breakfast. This will start your day off right and make your body start burning calories earlier.

- Eat often. If you eat a small healthy meal every 2-3 hours, you'll keep your metabolism rolling all throughout the day.

- SLEEP. If you don't sleep enough each night, your metabolism will lag.

- Eat right. Fish, water, green tea, lean turkey, oatmeal... those are all great for a healthy metabolism!

- Get active a little every day. Whether it's a workout, walking home from school, or taking the stairs instead of the elevator. Smile

Hey girl! Try doing cardio for about a half hour everyday after school, and then fifteen minutes of toning. Doing exercises you enjoy for cardio make the time go so much faster! Play basketball with your friends or jump rope! It's also helpful to switch up your routine so that its more of an every other day thing. You'll make the most of your workouts without getting bored and allow your muscles you used the day before to rest! xoxo

I have HORRIBLE cardio! I can't run any longer than like 3 minutes on a treadmill!!! I'm most definitely not over weight, I just don't know what's going on, I wasn't always like this!!! What can I do to improve my cardio a lot!??? Carly S.

 

 

Hey girl! It's great that you want to improve your cardio! Next time you hit your 3 minute limit on the treadmill, instead of ending your workout, slow that treadmill down and walk for 1 or 2 minutes. Then, kick it back up and run for 2 or 3 minutes more. Don't forget to warm up first! Search our workout section for more workout ideas and tips!

My favorite is the plank. I recommend starting with a 30 second hold and working your way to 60 secs! Stick with it and you'll be stronger and more fit in no time!

Hey lotsaluv101, first kudos on wanting to be healthy! Healthy meals and snacks can be just as tasty as the bad stuff. You just gotta find out what fruits and veggies are your fave. One thing I really like is smoothies. Think of fruit combos you like and blend them with ice. For example, I like strawberry and banana, and pineapple, coconut and orange juice smoothies. You can also get creative with sandwiches and toppings. Trade white bread for wheat bread and make the sandwich colorful with tomatoes, lettuce, onions, mustard and turkey breast. Apples and banans dipped in caramel is good, and so is celery sticks with peanut butter. Carrot sticks and broccoli are yummy with salad dressing. Don't forget nuts. Try some trail mix or granola bars too. Hope this helps! Xoxo

I workout regularly before dinner, but whatever I eat always seems to UNDO everything I just did so is there something low-calories I could be eating? Oh and also I have a suggestion: could GL start putting the calories on their recipes because they look soooo good, but after a workout, I'm not sure what I should eat. Soo yeah, Any Ideas?

so every night after dinner I do a workout: 90 sit-ups, 150 leg-lifts, 45 push-ups. I also run a mile every morning before breakfast. I was just wanting to know, is this healthy? is there any way I can improve it?

 

Hey girl! As long as you're eating a healthy diet (getting enough calories to support all the work your bod is doing), these workouts are great! Remember to take a day off once a week to let your bod recharge. xoxo

The truth is, everyone in the world makes judgments about YOU based on your behavior. It's what you put out there for them to see - so make sure it's true to who you are. If you're naturally drawn to guys and enjoy having boyfriends because you like getting to know them/it seems like the right time, don't change just because you're worried about what people will think. But if you're desperate for a BF, rarely go very long without one, and you kiss anything around you that moves, ya gotta prepare for people to start talking. Try a banana protein shake (you can Google recipes depending on what other fruits you like), peanut butter and sliced banana on whole grain toast or rice cakes, hummus and pita bread, low fat yogurt with some raspberries and blueberries, sliced apples dipped in peanut butter, or tuna on whole wheat. It'll give you energy and taste great!

Im going to try out for the swim team in september to try and help out my scoliosis. Its not really a tryout just swimming 100 meters. I've never been a very srong swimmer, so 100 meters is sorta hard for me. Do you have any tips for being able to swim those 100 meters? Help!!

 

Hey girl! Before pools close for the season, head over and try swimming a lap.  After a 10 minute break, try a lap again, then a lap and a half.  Keep working your way up, taking breaks whenever you need it, until you can do 100 meters! It might take a few days, so don't be discouraged if you can't do it right away.  xoxo
