I had my first period yesterday and today my flow completely stopped; it wasn't even that light yesterday, it was actually kind of heavy and when I woke up today there was no blood on my pad and I changed it anyways and I ate breakfast and did all of that stuff, i checked on it again like 5 mins ago, and there's still no blood. I thought ur period was supposed to last for 3-7 days not just one! And do u think i should still wear a linner in my undies even though its gone?

hey! You should wear a liner for 2 more days just in case it comes back. Sometimes "spotting" can occur irregularly your first year. If you still feel concerned, ask a trusted adult or doctor. good luck!

cool article i've been looking for something like this!
MOD MOD MOD
i really want to go on a trip to meet my friend who i will probably never see again. It makes me really sad because we were really close. The only problem is that she lives in a dangerous country. her mom says it's ok if i stay at her house when/if i come, but my mom and dad aren't sure if they want me going. I could probably convince my mom, but my dad... that's going to be hard. my mom won't let me go alone and if i were 2 go she said she'd have to come 2.... what are some good was 2 convince them? Thanks!
p.s her coming to my house isn't an option

hey! The tough truth of being a kid is that you can't get your parental units to do anything. You can however, try to open a dialogue with her about your feelings. Explain your side to her in a non-whiney, calm manner. Don't interrupt her or get angry even if she interrupts you or gets angry. That's unfair, but since she has all the power, it's in your best interest not to antagonize her. As in, you'll be more likely to get what you want if you act really, super mature. If she still says no, accept her decision gracefully. If she sees that you're not going to throw a fit for not getting your way, she'll be more likely to listen next time you want something. good luck!

Ok so I have been on my period for over 2 years now(I'm 14 1/2) and I have super heavy flow for the first day or so. It's not that I'm worried about getting it at a random time, I am always like on the nose for when I get it. Anyways, It's just that my mom won't let me use tampons yet, and I go through a normal pad in an hour or so(which sucks during school) I would like to use a tampon because they are so much easier to use(I had to use one for swimming and once because I had to borrow from a friend) and they work so much better for me. How do I convince my mom to let me use tampons?

Hey girl, sit down with your mom and calmly and maturely explain to her exactly why you want to use tampons. Tell her about how pads just don't seem to cut it and how it makes swimming easier, etc. Emphasize that you plan to use them correctly and change them when your supposed to. If she still doesn't agree with you using tampons, try wearing a night-time pad for heavy flow days. Good luck!

I have REALLY dark circles under my eyes. I'm not sure why. No one else in my family does, I'm not super stressed, and I get enough sleep. What can I do to fade them! I cover them with makeup, but no amount will cover them enough to a good level, they're still really dark when I put on concealer( both yellow to correct the purpleness and regular to blend it) and powder. Help!!

Hey girl,

Try using an eye cream in the mornings and night to help fade your dark circles, and make sure you're getting enough water and eating plenty of veggies!

Just like blush, lipgloss, mascara and maybe a neutral eyeshadow. I feel like this year all the girls in my grade will wear makeup.Any suggestions for how to get my mom to let me wear makeup or suggestions for what type of makeup to wear if i am allowed to?

Hey girly! I'd make a compromise with you mom and start by only wearing some of that! I'd suggest mascara and lipgloss! That's the perfect amount of make-up for someone in 7th grade! xoxo

Next week we're starting swim PE in school and I'm supposed to have my period then. I've never used a tampon before, and I'm kind of scared to try it, but I don't want to seem like a wimp on the first day of swim PE. I'm not really sure what to do...please help!!!

Hey girlie,

You shouldn't really practice with tampons if you don't have your period, so sit tight. Read our tampon guide (http://www.girlslife.com/post/2010/10/08/How-To-Use-Tampon.aspx) and be prepared for when your next period starts. When it starts, give it a try. Remember that those muscles have to get used to it, so it might feel a little uncomfy at first. But if you want to swim during gym (and don't want to skip off to the nurse's office all the time), it's SO worth figuring it out! <3 (Plus, I use tampons and they are soooo much better than pads. Cleaner, quicker, and way more comfy!)

I haven't got my period yet and people have told me that you can't use a tampon right after your period. that you have to wait or something? So when is it safe and OK to use a tampon?
Please be specific

Hey girlie,

You shouldn't use tampons when you don't have your period - it can hurt your insides because it's dry and not as lubricated in there. But if you have your period, you can start using tampons right on your first period if you want to! I use tampons and I usually use a pantyliner on my first day because it's light, then "upgrade" to a tampon on the second day. I use tampons all the way through (super, regular, or light depending on my flow) until it's over for the month Smile

Hi! Ok so I just moved to the suburbs :/ I don't know anyone my age here. I have to go to a new jr high and I went to orientation today. I went to online school before by the way. The jr high is huge and really overwhelming. Also my locker is super tiny, filthy, and my school ID looks horrid. The school also put me in Pre-Algebra instead of Algebra 1! I get to meet my new soccer team today too and I'm nervous! :/ Any tips and or advice?

Hey girlie! Be friendly and ask your teammates about themselves- chances are you'll make friends with them pretty quickly since you share a love of soccer.  Everyone looks terrible in their school IDs (trust me, I have years of them to prove it).  If you think you should be in Algebra, talk to a counselor or your math teacher and see what they can do.  As for the gross, tiny locker- brighten it up with some cute pictures and things to keep your stuff off of the shelves and floor of it (like a locker ladder in a cute color).  Good luck! xoxo

Hey girly! You never know what could be going on in your friend's life that is making her so sensitive. I wouldn't let her go. I'd try and be a good friend to her and ask if anythings wrong. If she says no, that doesn't necessarily mean that there isn't anything, she just may not be ready to talk to you about it. While you stay friends with her you can still expand your friend group to include a few more friends! MODMODMOD:
i'm 13 going into 8th grade. All of my friends have phones and some have had them since 5th or 6th grade. I have talked to my mom before about getting one but she kinda ignores me, i talked to her again today and told her i think it'd be good for sports/play practice, going places with friends and talking 2 my friends. i said i've been trying to be more responsible lately and i know it costs a lot but i will pay them back completely no matter how long it takes. but she laughed at me! no joke. and then was basically acting like i never said anything. So what do i do? nobody believes/trusts/listens to me! thanks!

Hey girly! Try preparing some sort of presentation for her (that's what I did with my parents haha)! Write down your arguments ahead of time and then tell her why it's so important to you. Then give her time to respond. If her response isn't quite what you want it to be, say you understand where she's coming from and thank her for listening to you. Before you stop the conversation make sure to ask if there are any conditions that would help you get a phone (maybe make a goal and ask if once you accomplish it she'll let you, or take on extra chores for a month to show how responsible you are). If she sees you acting so mature she'll be a lot more likely to let you! Good luck! xoxo

So when I was in 5 grade my parents got me my first cell phone. Then 3 months later they took it away from me and gave me no reason why. (I didn't do anything bad on it, AT ALL) Well now I'm going into 7 grade and my parents decided I need a cell phone. They bought me one today and so I looked it up online because I haven't got it yet. This version is OLDER then my old phone and has a 3 star reveiw only like 1 person out of most of the comments completely love it. And it says it's hard to text with and click on things. I would rather be cell phoneless then have this. I don't want it. What should I tell my parents?

Hey sweets! That's a bummer, but you should be happy you're getting a phone! It's super exciting! Even if you decide you don't love your phone, you don't have to use it for anything other than emergencies! Also a good way to jazz it up is to get a cool case! If you're set on not having this phone then maybe go talk to your parents about you paying the difference between the phone they're getting you and the one you want! Maybe they'll let you get it then! xoxo

Hey girly! No worries! You don't need to get all new clothes this year! Have you checked out the article about back to school clothes right from your closet?? Here's the link: http://www.girlslife.com/post/2012/08/13/Find-the-perfect-first-day-outfitwithout-hitting-the-mall.aspx !!! Try finding some new pairings of your old clothes and new ways to wear stuff you already have that follow some of the newest trends and you're outfits will look brand new and first day worthy in no time! xoxo

I'm sorry, but I hate when girls apply lip gloss at their lockers, or especially at class!!! It's such a distraction, and they just do it to look "cool." Not so cool!

my must-have locker products are: chapstick, a miny jergens hand moisturizer, hand sanitizer, a miny Kleenex box of tissues, pads, those mirror/brush in one thingys, and travel size deodorant. I really don't need makeup, but if there's a party, boy does some of my friends treat me like a Barbie doll by dragging me to their lockers, putting sooo much makeup on me, but that's my opinion, others would say I look pretty, but I don't like it when people stare at you when you've been makeupfyed!
