In the News: First day nightmare

Perry Hall High School in Baltimore County, Maryland had the worst first day imaginable today when a student brought a gun to school. A 17-year-old student with special needs was shot in the back in the school's cafeteria.

Witnesses stated that a teacher and a guidance counselor sprang into action by restraining the 15-year-old suspect and pinning the suspect against a vending machine.

The suspect was taken into custody by police. The injured student was brought into University of Maryland's Shock Trauma Center and is in critical condition.

Schools need to be a safe environment where students and teachers can work together without feeling scared. Students from every background need to feel free to learn without feeling threatened. With gun violence cropping up in the news more often than ever, how can we make schools safer and prevent tragedies like this from happening? What can students do? What can teachers do? What lunatic would ever want to shoot someone? Gosh, I am right there with Sparksfly. What has the world come to today? I mean,the Hunger Games future is seeming to become a lot more practical now (sorry, though, no Peeta.)

What's happening to our environment? Our world?!? Shootings in schools, on the streets, even in movie theaters!!! Trust me when i say the school, the shooter, and the student who got shot and their family will definitely be in my prayers. I wish for them the best.
